2024 Recruiting Thread

Do y'all think the Miami and Texas A&M type NIL strategy is long term sustainable if they don't start showing production on the field? Upfront money is nice but you can go elsewhere and get better development and play on winning teams. Gotta think kids will start getting tired of losing and underwhelming.

According to insiders, Looks like Lightfoot tried to start a NIL bidding war and Ohio State wouldn't pay to play....so Miami it is. I guess enjoy the up the front money and 3-4 disappointing years of football at Da U.
I've been told by some here - @Thiefery, cough, cough - that teams don't do this. Evidently, we are all in on offering tons of NIL upfront.

FWIW, when I said some schools don't do this, Bama, UGA and tOSU are the ones I have read that won't get pulled into that. Plenty of NIL on the backside, though.

Fong really REALLY confident about Houston to tosu..and even though he has a ball to Stewart to land at tosu as well, he reiterated to watch out for South Carolina a few times right now on the live youtube show
Houston to tOSU has been trending hard for months now. He's not on any of the mocks on any of the UGA boards.

It is a sign of desperation, and it won't work. Culture is so important, and if you have a bunch of people coming in just for the $$$, that won't win consistently. The NIL has to be complementary to what else the school has to offer. ATM has enough tradition, they might be able to lead more with NIL. But not Miami.

I'm not sure about Miami..but i'm pretty sure aggy is.. If they are struggling on the field.. they will pony up the money to get Jimbo out of there and to hire another guy..who will give them a shot of juice and the money donated to keep the roster in tact and upgrade through the portal and HSFB recruiting

lol yeah like y'all weren't desperate when Kirby took over

We weren't in Miami mode, that's for sure. Plus Kirby had 11 years under Saban ... he knew the recipe to the magic sauce. Look UGA was a giant just waiting for the right guy to come around. Richt was close, but Smart with his UGA/Georgia/Bama system ties was the perfect storm for UGA to get to the top. Don't worry, you guys may find that person in the next decade or two. :beer2:

Bigger thing is.. whomever figures this thing out..between UT and aggy.. watch out because the money will not stop.. For Texas it's been a struggle since DeLoss retired, Mack got mind fucked by Saban and had him wanting to revert his offense back to the 80s.. and of course the battle between the Gov who forced the UT president to step down.

They now have their AD in CDC.. Hartzell is aligned as the UT president... only question is Sark.. recruiting wise he's been terrific so far and the program (Admin) LOVE..LOVE the guy. This season is going to be huge for him..because if he breaks through and gets a spot in the CFP.. they will get the #1 class in recruiting next year

You keep thinking that it's all about money and nothing else. There is more to it.

Realistically, where do you think your class is going to land? Things have changed and players are committing earlier and earlier. You are currently 32nd, and 13th by average. Are you guys in on enough good players to jump to top 5, top 3. That's what it is going to take to win in the SEC.

Like every market, there becomes an accepted pricing. That does not mean someone won’t come along and pay sticker +20%. Most schools are not going to play that game and contrary to popular opinion, not every recruit is looking for the highest bidder.

@Across The Field looks like Miami swooped in on Lightfoot, Wiltfong and Ohio State's main 247 insider just flipped their CB from us to them. Oof. Now we need to get Houston and Stewart.
If a kid says "I'd like to play for a you at Ohio State, but Miami is offering me more NIL money so I think I'm gonna go there instead", I wouldn't even give the privilege of a response. Right there you know his mind isn't in the right place to play for a premier program and you can move on confidently.

LSU was 3, 3, 7, and 15 (247 composite) from '15-'19 class and won a CFP championship. It's still July but there is some players who will be committing throughout this month that lands us inside the top 10. There some national guys, and a huge one in TX, that we are in it and if some of those go our way..I definitely see another top 5 finish.

Reason why I was talking about next year's cycle ('25) is because TX is loaded similar to the way GA is this cycle. UT already has a commitment with a QB (From Alabama of all places) who looks like Bryce.. I think by the this time next year he will be ranked as a high 5 star (top10 nationally).

I don't think it's all about the money, but for the players that look for that and are obviously good fits for the program, UT is now at a place where they can continue to recruit those players to the end.

terrific get for UGA..especially considering the dad of this kid went to Bama

Hey, you Okies ... this one is a big one ... looks like it's between the two of us. Oregon trying to drop a bag. Our side has a lot of confidence right now.

No. 37 on Composite.

Gerry Hamilton thinks this kid is really underrated..he thinks he should be a 5 star..been saying it since the winter.. Didn't give UT a real look at all :(

Really want JJA.

Another lean from Texas for us is Justin Williams. We loaded up at ILB last year, so I thought we were out on him, but looking favorable right now. Hearing Oregon as the main competition. They will say they lead, and they could easily be right. Lanning doing a hell of a job!
