2024 Recruiting Thread

I really don't understand this mindset. I'm sure a big reason he's going there is playing time. Even after JTT and Sawyer leave (not even 100% sure Sawyer will after this year) we have minimum 4 other EDGE rushers that he'll be behind in Jackson, Abor, Caden Curry, and very likely Joshua Mickens. That doesn't take into account Hero Kanu, Jason Moore, Kayden McDonald who were all top 150 composite overall players, with Will Smith at 165 overall, in the 22/23 classes. Bringing in Justin Scott and potentially Eddrick Houston would be a recruiting haul that basically only UGA and maybe Bama can touch over the last 3 years.

You have to constantly keep bringing in top top end elite DL if you want to win national titles these days. That's the problem, you have to stay on pace with Bama and UGA, being a step behind them is not ideal.

2023 was a disappointment and 2024 is trending that way too. Even with Scott, if they don't land Houston now too it's a huge bust.

Guys like Smith & Mickens aren't total bums by any means, but you need those elite elite guys like Stewart. Those guys are nice but still a disappointment from what they supposedly were "leading for" at points.

The problem with Larry Johnson Sr is apparently he is amazing at sucking kids in while they are on campus, but is VERY bad at keeping that relationship going once they leave.

So logically you need someone younger and more with it at that position who knows how to continue to build and keep a relationship via phone/text/social media.

Talent isn't an issue at OSU. It's development, which when you blow through different DCs literally every year for 5 years is hard to do.

Beamer is a legit recruiter. Damn. Back-to-back years getting a 5* out of DC.

Yeah I saw this was his highest recruit in his time there. Nothing against SCar, things could be back on the upswing. I think one thing Day and his staff need to do is stop embracing this "definitely go take the rest of your visits before formally announcing" stuff. A couple of insiders have said he told them he was in a few weeks ago but Day told him to finish his visits and that's what swung things for SCar.

Yes 2021 and 2022 were good

But 2023 and now 2024 are looking meh in comparison. Hopefully it's not the trend going forward.

Lot of time between now and early signing day. Even if Houston goes Bama, I'm sure there are guys we will be in on. Maybe I'm just alone on the 22/23 classes, but I think they addressed each position along the line very well. Also, while we're behind UGA in DL recruiting, we didn't lose to them because of that obviously.

They could recruit top 20 classes now til the end of time and still not get to double-digit wins. Their best bet is to hopefully get to the back end of the new 12 team playoff.

at least they are trying

If Houston goes to Bama that's a gigantic hit, they will maybe find a Joshua Mickens type filler like last year, but it's nowhere near the same

I dunno about that. They got over the Clemson hump, and I'm sure they'll get over the UGA hump at some point. If Beamer is as good a coach as recruiter I think 10 wins seems very possible if he keeps the momentum up.

The guy was a top 120 overall recruit, man. Both Georgia and Bama have recruited guys around that same level and gotten massive production from them. 5* DEs aren't automatic hits, even for the top schools.

I never said we need all of them. But ignoring that we keep missing on these guys the last 2 years isn't the way to go about it either.
I think the problem is that we attract them to even be considered as major contenders in the first place so our fanbase thinks we're going to land a bunch each cycle. We constantly have top 5 classes and constantly compete for titles. I think it's far more important that we establish coaching consistency and identity on defense rather than worry about how many 5* kids we get. If we're being honest, considering how lacking we've been in those departments the last 3 years, I'm pumped to get any big-name defenders over other programs right now.
