Anyone tried to to get insurance quotes lately or renewals?

Im in Texas and both My home owners and auto insurance rates went up significantly.

My buddy has filed 2 claims against his home owners insurance in the last 10 years and his insurance company has told him that if he makes any more claims they'll drop him. I mean sure, how dare he actually use the insurance he's paying for.
And he might not be able to get any other insurance coverage from other companies.

my wife "tapped" someone in a parking lot. everyone was laughing... not real damage to the car but i let them submit a claim to my insurance..

19 months later, we are being sued for $100k for medical. insurance company settle for the 100k.

fuck that why.

I don't doubt it. I swear his place is built on an indian burial ground. He's had the worst luck with the place.

I'm in Texas. Auto went up from 900 to 1160 every six month.

house (no claims) went up 4k to 6k.

I expect an increase in mortgage repos. once the escrow catches up to the mortgage payments, people won't be able to afford it.

When I was in high school it was raining and this work truck stopped in front of me suddenly and I hit the brakes hard, they locked and I slid into the dude. Put a small dent in the guy's bumper and honestly the abuse that truck had taken it wasn't in the top 20 body issues that thing had. He insisted we call the police and do a report so I had no choice but to sit there thinking my dad was going to kill me.

Fast forward a month and the insurance company has settled with the guy (no idea for what amount) but we had exchanged phone numbers and he was wife called my dad up drunk one night to thank him because they weren't going to have a Christmas that year before I hit her husband. My dad just hung up but pretty much every Christmas since at some point my dad will ask me if I think that family is having a nice Christmas this year and did I hit any other tiny Tims during the year. We are going on 34 years of him asking me that.

I just renewed both last month. Auto jumped to $1,500 (was less than $1,000). HOI was $4,500 (up from about $3,600). No claims on either. I shopped around a bit on the HOI and the cheapest I found was $6,000.

When my car insurer and my home insurer let me know that my rates would be going way up, I shopped around too and still couldn't find a better deal. I've been with my current company for nearly a decade with essentially zero claims filed.

When I asked what their basis was for raising my rates, the company agent said that the cost to repair/replace a car/home at this point has gone up so much that they didn't have a choice but to raise rates.

Auto insurance is a total bullshit. Can't speak for nationwide, but in my state we are legally required to have some form of auto insurance. I pay it on time every month and have a good driving record. But as soon as I file a claim like replacing a windshield (no fault accident btw) my rate increases. Or with my wife's case, she was hit by another driver. No fault yet still goes on our record. Meanwhile what happens to the uninsured 20 something air headed female who was probably playing on her phone driver who hit my wife? Zero.

I have been with Western Reserve Insurance since I moved out on my own. They're not the cheapest (also not the most expensive), but they've been awesome so far. We've filed plenty of claims, particularly in a 1-2 year period where we claimed a roof, a garage door, a flooded basement and a car accident.

They didn't drop us or go crazy with rates.

If you're unhappy with your carrier, you might want to look into them.

I bought my youngest child a used car last week. I called my agent when the paperwork was signed to get it insured. He blew my socks off with the premium. We started talking about the prices of insurance & I told him I was going shopping for new insurance. He pretty much told me the State Farm was the least expensive these days. Of course I didn't believe him, but after about 5-6 phone calls. Damn, shits out of sight!!! Money is worthless these days.

I think you might just have shitty insurance, dude. Hopefully it's not from one of those companies that has ads on TV with animated characters, Shaq, or both.

The true shame of auto insurance is that it's pretty much a tax on those who are willing to pay it. If you're caught without insurance (not just proof of it), then it's usually a small fine, maybe a misdemeanor and then some extra hurdles for registration. Get caught again, and it's more of the same, except maybe the fine is enforced that time. Worse still, about half of all the states require 'uninsured motorist fees', basically requiring you to have extra insurance when someone ELSE causes you damage or injury... simply because they are unwilling or unable to pay it.

That is not shitty insurance, that is a shitty legal system

Kinda, really it just goes hand-in-hand with driving becoming a de facto right. You can be an illegal immigrant and drive. You can have no insurance and drive. If you have no license and rear-end some person, then you'll still never go to jail.

The cheapest insurance is typically among the worst. I have USAA, which while not being the cheapest, is probably among the best. They do tend to treat people with less on their driving record with better premiums.

USAA is for service personnel correct?
