Issue with pinching guys like Fields off at the sidelines is you need speedy guys to get there or they'll just turn the corner and blow past. We've seen it all too often. Thankfully, we seem to be getting a little more speed out of the sideline-to-sideline guys.
 
IMO, Fields is a good enough QB but needs a lot more around him. He doesn't make people better. A game manager, at best.

Well if he played for michigan we wouldn't be having this conversation because Harbaugh can't put QBs into the NFL

Any rate, if you don't understand that this coaching staff is going to destroy any QB you put in there then I can't help you.

I have been a Bears fan all my life. It's always the coaches...the o-line...the playcalling...the receivers...the coordinators...the hot dog vendor...

I'm of the opinion that the Bears management is more to blame than the coaches for compiling a shoddy OL pool.

One of the key reasons the Lions are looking up this year is because someone in the Ford family finally got the memo that you need a decent OL to win football games. A guy like Goff is good enough if you can keep guys off of him long enough to get the ball out of his hands.

I can understand Bears fan's frustration.

If the Packers didn't have a decent QB since Sid Luckman, I'd be pretty frustrated, too.

I started watching football when Write handed the ball to Majkowski.

I would take Majkowski over any QB the Bears have had since Luckman.

I started watching during the Lynn Dickey to James Lofton era. Dickey wasn't a bad QB from what I can remember, but he did have injury problems that pretty much derailed his career. They didn't have much on those early-to-mid 80's teams besides Dickey & Lofton either. That was also the beginning of Dan Marino's career, though, and compared to Marino Dickey was a chump. I started off my football fandom as a Packers fan, but also a Marino fan.

I'm not old enough to remember much of Dickey to Lofton, but my dad always said Dickey was hugely underrated.

Well would you say the franchise is just snakebitten or something? There are few, if any, teams in NFL history who have had such a consistent string of total shit at the position, and the team themselves aren't doing themselves any favors by continuing to hire inept coaches who can't develop the position properly. I get that it pisses you off, but it's the truth. It's said because some of the best defenses have been in Chicago with only 1 ring to show for it and it's all because they can't coach the QBs they get.

I'd say they suck at evaluating coaches and QB talent. I'd also say that they've never really embraced the forward pass. lol

I think the talent is there on the OL, they just need it to come together (and also need guys to be playing in the right position would help). I'm hoping Braxton Jones wasn't a flash in the pan last year, but until they're able to prove they can put together a good OL and - more importantly - field a competent defense, they won't find an available QB that's going to do better for them than Fields.
