As. A. Runner. He threw for over 200 yards, TWICE last year.
Taking the team on his back is great. Like I said. Seems like a good kid. Decent leader. Great runner.
None of which have anything to do with what we are talking about. Until he vastly improves/speeds up his footwork, windup, delivery, and most importantly, his TIMING, he will continue to "carry" the team on his LEGS.
I am not, nor have I ever blamed everything on Fields, but he is definitely a problem. When you continually play outside the timing of the designed play, you disrupt the entire offense.
Here's a fun example. Chase Claypool, who EVERYONE hates and who sleepwalked through last week's game. His best game as a Bear was last year, in fact, THE ONLY GAME, where he looked like an actual receiver was with Trevor fucking Simien at QB.
I hope for the best for Fields. The next decade hinges on him figuring it the fuck out. So far, he has not. Dude needs to pick up the pace, and trust his eyes. But RIGHT NOW, he is playing the position as poorly as anyone who's ever put on a Bears jersey. That is just a fact. Shitty team or not. Great QBs make the team better. He has PLENTY of talent around him now, and plenty of great QBs have played and or are playing behind shitty lines or with less talent.
When you rush to defend the guy at every turn, and never honestly criticize his play, all while calling everyone who does stupid, ya, yer gonna get a dick-sucking comment. Welcome to the internet.
