Heupel is done

Exactly. He has a cannon and is very athletic, but brains...not so much. I always said, if he couldn't get it done at Michigan, why would it be any different at Tennessee.
What most Tennessee fans don't know about Milton is -- he was only a low 3 star recruit, then he shined in the 7 on 7 passing tournies his senior year and that somehow moved him to a 4 star recrhuit. What most forget about is -- the guy never completed 50% of his passes in a single year in HS. He also averaged over 1 turnover a game in HS. The guy completed 48% of his passes in his HIGH SCHOOL CAREER.

He has all the attributes in the world, but the hardest thing in the world to teach is accuracy, touch and football IQ. That is where he lacks. He will never be a QB who walks up to the line, sees a defense and audibles out of the play on his own. He will always be a guy who makes unreal throws and then makes throws where you can't believe he is your QB

Welcome back to the cellar, Tennessee fans.

I remember the days of Michigan fans talking about how Milton was going to turn around Michigan football after beating up Minnesota in 2020. It was the COVIDs, it was a wild place.

FWIW, from a major rival:

- I don't want to get too far over my skis - The Swamp is a tough place to play, and UF has some talent. I was pulling for UF because I think they have about 4-5 more losses in their future whereas I felt you were more of a problem for us ... I wanted you to have at least 2 SEC losses before we come into Knoxville - say UF and Bama, with maybe one more out of ATM, Ky, USCjr, or Mizzou. So a UF win was in my team's best interest IMO. I like our chances, but I don't have the confidence I have had in the past 2 years and think we may drop an SEC game at some point this year. I think we need to win in Atlanta with 1 or 0 losses to get into the final 4 team field.

- I think that Kirby showed everyone how to defend Heupel's offense. It's not a sophisticated offense ... basically, go long and let a good QB hit some big plays. Throw in a decent to good run game, and then speed everything up. Well, you don't have the WRs and QBs you had last year, so teams can stop the run. And like all offenses that run on a gimmick - going fast - DC's figure out how to handle that. And, winning football has to be complimentary - if you speed up the O, the D gets tired quickly. And it's a D players don't want to play in. There is a reason that OU could never field a D worth a shit, nor can USC, and in fact, the entire B12 has that problem.

- That said, you may have such a QB on the bench, but he is young. If he is really good, then perhaps he should be who you are playing. There is a reason that Milton keeps losing the job - he's just not very good.

- If I were a UTjr fan, my question would be do I think that Heupel can (1) recruit well enough to fill in on the OL, build a D. I think he can get enough QBs, and WRs should be available in the portal (although why not this year?), and (2) can his offense evolve. You aren't going to get elite with the offense he runs, IMO. Before you disagree with me here, look at his digression at UCF:

You lost to UGA late last year, then USCjr, and have not looked good this year.

I never presume to know more about teams than the people who follow their team closely, so I could be way off and am open to that. Just thoughts from one opposing team fan.
Well I’ve said from the get go from what I can tell his teams are going to look a LOT like the Oklahoma teams from the Stoops/Woody era, both the good and bad, I just hoped being in the SEC would help to recruit a little better player on the defensive side of the ball. The offense was there last year, the defense however imo was too soft BUT did enough to get by for several wins until the offense started to sputter a bit later in the season. The offensive line had me worried, for all of his faults Pruit DID do a solid job getting OLine, the jury is still out on how JH will do, I assume he'll be fine getting offense regardless but.. we'll see, so far the on field product aint impressing anyone but... I think anyone being reasonable wasn't expecting another double digit win season after losing so much production from last years team. The defense, particularly #5(bum should have been benched during the UF game) is too soft once again and the offense is in a transition type of year so it's a glaring weakness now.

I expect JH to give Milton every chance to get the offense going as I don't think Iamaleava is quite ready yet but.. if things continue to flop on that side of the ball he may not have a choice but to go ahead and let the kid take his lumps now, his upside is much higher than Milton anyway.

Yea UT took Milton and Hooker and anyone else who could possibly start/ had experience at QB to get something, anything on offense and.... Coaches ALWAYS think they have the answer for a guy who looks good on the hoof and flashes talent, it's just in the DNA of any coach worth his salt. Thats why Milton will prob still get drafted or signed to a NFL team, they can't help themselves and... sometimes it DOES work out (See Hooker)

Yeah without a doubt. Just imagine when he does the combine -- scouts will be salivating. Unfortunately, once the defense is on the field -- he has issues.

I am REALLY hoping Hooker is the real deal. My Lions drafted him and I love the pick. We will see how he fairs once healthy.

I was just going to talk about that to a Tennessee fan. Minnesota plays soft coverage and with a rocket arm like Milton, he can pick teams apart with slants. That's what he did to Minnesota. Then MSU played press coverage and Milton was lost.
