If TX wins: Texas #1

Just think of them as Iowa.
I've seen some delusional homer fans, but good lord, @Thiefery could be at the top of the list.

I can't believe he just said, Texas is among the nationally elite programs today because they are ranked in the top 10. Disregard the fact, the last time they won a conference title, George W. Bush was still president, followed by the 1st year of Barrack Obama. But they are ranked in the top 10, so of course, they are on par with the top programs.

To me the interesting ones are Harbaugh and Day.. Harbaugh took a paycut, probably cause michigan is broke
Michigan is absolutely loaded. I'd guess they are in the top 10 richest colleges. I think their endowment is like 20 billion or something like that. Michigan is just archaic in their ways in the admin office.

Harbaugh took a paycut because people were calling for his head, as he went away from what he knows and tried to become a spread team. It failed miserably.

They are an elite program… but not because of their performance on the football field. Performance on the football field isn’t the criteria. The criteria for “elite” is money, money generated, money spent, money….. Oh, and historical reputation and perception. Those are also criteria for “elite”. Newbies that try to crash the party with on field performance are pissing into the wind.

Kind of like the “old money” and “new money” debate.

Ahh yes. All kinds of elite programs go 15 years without winning their own conference.

Let me guess -- if you don't win the Big 12 this year and go to the SEC, where you DEFINITELY aren't winning a conference title. Will you still be elite when that streak reaches 25 years? 30 years?

Fuck old money. It doesn't take any talent to be a member of the lucky sperm club. Show me someone who has made their fortune THEMSELVES in today's economic environment and they will get my respect for "having money". Winning in CFB is hard and if you do it often enough you get to be considered elite. But winning a lot of championships decades ago doesn't mean squat in today's game. OU has flirted with becoming a member of the Nice Try Club because we do win a lot of games and conference championships but we haven't won a NC in 23 years. Please don't tell me what you did years ago; show me some recent success. It's like having to listen to someone brag about how they were a stud in high school or a fantastic cheerleader and all you can see is a lard ass who lives in the past.

Elite programs are those competing for national titles on a yearly basis. Using your logic, Nebraska is an elite program in CFB today. Penn Stste is one of the elite programs. Texas A&M is one of the elite programs. Auburn, etc. The list goes on and on.

The elite programs in CFB right now are Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State.

Clemson could be up there, but since the changes in NIL and transfer portal, they have struggled and are more in the 2nd tier.

Outside of those 3 programs -- every other school if they lose key players have to do some sort of rebuild. Those 3 schools simply reload.

Schools like Michigan, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Penn State, USC, Oregon, etc are all in the 2nd tier of programs. They could have a year where they break thru, but it isn't every year they can win a title.

I couldn't care less about what a program brings in monetarily. It is about their success on the field.

I should have used the green font.

so basically you will always make the cfp while losing in spectacular fashion while we continue to struggle? ok.. and we still get more attention..

Get over it. Texas is NOT an elite football program. Period. Profitable football program? Absolutely. On a level with the Georgia, Bama, Ohio State programs? NOT A CHANCE.

You aren't even on Oklahoma's level, let alone the truly elite football programs.

lol and you are ou level? lol they played in many BCS finals (lost them all except 1).. when has UM played for an actual title? But you are supposed to be ELITE.. Elite teams don't get their asses handed by TCU with a full month of game planning.

At what point will you grasp the fact -- NOWHERE DID I CALL MICHIGAN ELITE. I said Michigan is in the 2nd tier of teams who are a LOOOOOONG WAY from the truly elite programs in CFB.

I will say this though -- If you think Texas is an elite football program right now -- you must consider Michigan a Super Elite program. No idea what you consider Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State -- maybe you call them the Super Duper Elite.

94 wins since 2010. You aren't even on Iowa's level, let alone the level of elite programs. But keep telling yourself you are elite. Make sure you shine up that 2009 conference championship ring while you try to convince yourself you are an elite program. :pound:

look man.. the only teams we can't beat that starts with M is MD.. put us in the BiG and we win just as many games as you losers in Ann Arbor

Losing not once, but twice to Maryland removes ANY football team from the elite category. That may be worse than the games Texas lost to Kansas, but yeah -- you are definitely elite.
