It's entirely possible that some of these assistant coaches engage in this activity without the Head Coach knowing, just to make themselves look better. There's plenty of boosters and money floating around that won't be missed.

The leaks of news absolutely do. They're timed specifically so far. Michigan not being able to comment adds to the fire, and no game provides any kind of news distraction for two weeks. They thank you for the clicks.
 
My favorite part is the OSU fans claiming the B10 is going to step in. Let's check in on that theory:

This is not the difference between not knowing (0) and knowing (100%). Teams scout and steal signs. Most teams probably have the other team's full playbook. Most teams probably know a good number of the signs the opposition uses. What Michigan's accused of would give them better information to do this. It doesn't mean that these things wouldn't have been happening otherwise nor does it mean Michigan was 100% successful at doing this live during a game.

That money is nothing when they can't bet on games and they are getting the huge TV money.

So that makes cheating acceptable...because it wasn't 100% effective.

acceptable? No. The impact that is being suggested? No

But Michigan hasn't even received a notice of allegation yet. Lots of claims flying all over the place, supported by very little at this point.
