And that's why this is stupid. The only way to determine the best is to base it on most deserving. It's just subjective nonsense after that.

It has always been subjective and that's not being taken out of it with the new playoff system. Ultimately, it's gonna come down to people making judgements.

Yes, it's always been a weird quirk of college football and even part of the charm. But game results and wins/losses have to matter, judgments have to be based on more than "your starting QB is out so you probably won't win." That take goes against everything good and decent about sports.

Just defaulting to "well it's supposed to be what we think the best 4 teams anyway" to get the matchups you want when it goes all the precedent of how they've determined the best 4 based on who deserves it in the past is not the kind of judgements that have always been a part of it.

Really bad moment for college football. Shit Georgia has a better argument for number 4 than Bama does.

Each committee is different and each committee can use different reasoning, it's people after all. It's not an objective system and there really isn't a good way to get an objective system.

We readily recognize in CFB records can be misleading, and looking at results in the NFL we can see records can be misleading, the best predictor is who's trending in what way when and frankly FSU looked like shit last night.

If Michigan wins, is Notre Dame out of excuses?

To fix it we'd need a restructuring. The B1G & SEC be the NFC and AFC and then divisions. Give it a decade and we might be there.
I think so. With the super conferences we're bound to end up with more regional divisions at some point anyway, things will likely change quite a bit.

Getting rid of bowl games as we know them will also have to be part of it, and that's gonna be a hard sell with all the money that goes into them. But it's also about time. No one really cares about them anymore. NFL bound players bail on them if they aren't tied into the playoff anyway. It's time for a huge structural overhaul.

Best uniforms of any CFP ever. #fashion

FSU got fucked hard.

With no vaseline even.

So what do you do in a year like this year where in your scenario, the XFL is better than AFC or NFC?

At least as far as top teams go, by then they won't be in alt conferences. The ACC is inevitably dying and the top programs there will get scooped up, probably with FSU being first followed by Clemson. As soon as a program in the new B12 gets an invite to the major 2, they're out as well.

Concerning teams outside those conferences then, they'll be treated like the G5 is today. If they're really good they'll be an avenue for them to get a shot, otherwise they're locked out. If they're consistently good over a long period, they'll get an invite to join one of the big conferences.
