I think Treyveon is more versatile than his stats suggest, Day's offense just doesn't throw to the RB much. He would probably thrive as a pass catcher in a offense that was willing to throw him the ball more.

There's probably some truth to that. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a stud, just slightly behind those guys.

Yep. They should also be performance based.

Many of these are money grabs.

It's not for lack of playing time, it's "Who's the highest bidder?"
so like coaching moves??

It's to a point where HSFB kids will take a seat back to the CFB players who have proven their value on the field

I just don't think he's, as an overall RB, at their level. I think they're more versatile, which is why they were drafted where they were. Gibbs has been a beast this year.
He has? Given that he plays as a complimentary back running behind a great OL on an elite offense, I don't see what's "beastly" about what he's done. I'm fairly certain Trey could easily replicate that as a rookie if given that same chance.

As in their jobs being performance based? Sure.

There are just as many if not more players putting themselves into the portal because they didn't get playing time or foresee playing time next season. They were highly rated out of HS, but didn't pan out at the next level where they no longer had such a great talent advantage over fellow HS players.

However, I use this guy as an example of being in the money grab to the highest bidder.

"On3 rated Arnold as a top safety in CFB during the 2023 season"

He's avg 5.3 ypc, which is 2nd in the league. And he's 5th in receptions for RB's. When Montgomery hasn't played he's avg 100 ypg and over 5.5 ypc. Even splitting time with Montgomery he's has 900 yards from scrimmage. He's been a beast in his role, and you can argue has been vastly under utilized.

Yeah he's been fine. I think he is greatly helped by the team he's on. I mean, Montgomery is having a complete renaissance in this Detroit offense. He looked like he was running in mud in 21/22, and now he's been arguably a top 5 back. Gibbs is a fine complimentary back but doesn't have the 3-down potential Trey has. There's a reason why Detroit is using him the same way he was used in college.

He has been a pretty good receiver the chances they do give him, I wish they woulda thrown the ball to him more, especially this past year with McCord at QB.

Gibbs has been better than Montgomery this season IMO. When Montgomery missed those couple games Gibbs went off. If you give him the number of carries Montgomery has gotten, Gibbs would have close to 850 yards rushing.

I definitely think he has 3-down potential. Reminds me of Lesean McCoy.

So that makes him less of a player?

He's put himself on the auction block to the highest bidder, and he'll make good coin doing so.

Countdown to CFB players relating themselves to "slaves" being put on the auction block.
It already happened in the NFL.

True, but Dante Moore came from a pretty good program in Detroit and was clueless. I think the coaches like Kleinholz's athleticism and potential. Throwing him as a true freshman wasn't going to help him or the team this year.

Gotta go back to this. I think Moore was in a situation at UCLA this year that no true freshman QB out there coulda succeeded in. People are giving him way too much shit.

Oline was pretty bad. His 4th/5th/6th games against Utah/Oregon State/Wazzu he got sacked a combined 16 times and was having to air it out like 35 times a game (44! against Wazzu) with a average at best group of skill guys.

Then they tossed him back out there the last game against Cal after being on the bench for weeks to get sacked 6 more times and throw damn near 40 times with a broken team at that point.

Given better protection and maybe some better skill talent around him I think he will be fine.

seems like a Jag

lol how do you know for certain he's going to the highest bidder? If he follows his coach to East Lansing, does that mean he chose the highest bid??

That was one of the biggest knocks on Gibbs coming into the draft is that he doesn't have the build or blocking capability to be a 3-down back. Gibbs has been flashier than Monty but without Monty there, I would strongly doubt Gibbs keeps his YPA anywhere close to 5.3. His absolute ceiling is possibly Alvin Kamara if everything goes perfectly, but he's moreso cut out to be a really good complimentary RB who lines up at receiver sometimes, more of a general use weapon.

It could mean that.

He's already been offered by USC, Auburn, and Arkansas.

But he's also one elite season away from being Bijan or Gibbs.
No he isn't. Bijan is an anomaly. So is Gibbs.

Bijan is the most complete back that has come out since Zeke probably. Gibbs is one of the best receiving backs in a long time and is lightning quick.

Henderson will get drafted probably in the 2nd or 3rd round, but he is not going anywhere near where Bijan or Gibbs went. He can't stay healthy in college -- imagine what the NFL will do to him.

Edited to add -- The other thing that will keep Henderson out of the 1st round is -- he doesn't run well between the tackles and he is a terrible blocker.

As someone who has been to Lions games this year and watched every game they have played.

Detroit brought Gibbs along slowly to start the year. He was used mostly on 3rd downs and we'd split him out wide. We didn't overwhelm him to start. The fact Montgomery was playing so well to start the year -- it gave Detroit that option.

Each week they'd give him a little more. Then Montgomery went down and Gibbs had two games where he was the bell cow back and he did awesome. Montgomery came back and it was back to splitting duty.

Lions fans weren't happy at the beginning of the year, but now that he has become acclimated -- he is a game changer. He looks like he is going to different speed than anyone else (Him and Jameson Williams).

Henderson is NOT Gibbs. We've played Henderson the last few years -- he is a solid back, but he isn't as fast as Gibbs and isn't as elusive as Gibbs (and he definitely isn't Bijan Robinson). Hell -- when we play OSU -- I want Henderson in the game. I'd rather Henderson run the ball than Chip whatever his name is. Henderson likes to run east/west and you can do that in college. That isn't going to work in the NFL where everyone can run. You have to be able to run between the tackles.
