PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington state Supreme Court declined on Friday to review the Pac-12's appeal of a lower court ruling that gives full control of the conference to Oregon State and Washington State, keeping in place a legal victory for the league's two remaining schools over its 10 departing members.

Last month, a superior court judge in Whitman County, Washington, granted the two remaining Pac-12 schools a preliminary injunction that sided with Oregon State and Washington State’s argument, saying 10 departing schools relinquished their right to be part of the conference’s decision-making board when they announced they were joining new leagues in 2024.

The decision put Oregon State and Washington State in control of hundreds of millions of dollars in Pac-12 assets, but also made them fully responsible for the conference’s liabilities.

I'm torn that the PAC12 is going to be the PAC2 but OSU and WSU might come out smelling like roses and make more money than the teams that fled to other conferences.

With this ruling the PAC2 could leverage other teams to join them and actually win and have a winning program.

Imagine Vandy joining...they could actually win a conference title unlike they have in the SEC.

The limits are endless.

Sounds like they are getting paid.

Sure, we got the name to conference. We will keep the P5 status for at least 2 years to create a new conference or settle with the B1G and Big 12 because we now solely own the rights for ESPN or Fox to use footage.

Laffin' so hard @michaeljordan_fan right now.

Whatever was said (or unsaid) at the 24 director's meetings that took place after USC/UCLA were banned from attending is of record.

The commish was going to give them a 'reduced' distribution share at the minimum.

You can be sure the commish and the 8 other departing members were on board with it....
Until they themselves gave official announcement to leave...... Then they weren't.

Not sure why you are laughing.

P5 status? You must be joking.

Also...what ESPN/FOX coverage are you talking about?

I'm laffin' at you spending 10 pages arguing that this would never happen.

I did not say that. I said that as of the current post, WSU and OSU did not have control of the conference.

They do now, but they cannot change existing contractual agreements with the other members of the conference without their consent.

Thru 2029/2030 Oregon is only getting $30 million (+$1 million/yr) from the Big 10.
That's less than half share.

They would have been better off 'distribution wise' going to the Big 12.

What does p5 status get you, actually?

And in 2031?

Technically, p5 status gives you one less chance to get into the CFP if the 12 spot is taken up by a g5 team.

Haven't checked the new contract, but under the existing CFP system p5's get more money from the global pool than g5's. Did that change with the move to 12 team playoffs?

They did tho because the judge in the appeal said any changes had to be unanimous. All WSU or OSU had to do was vote NAY and the other 8 couldn't pass anything to include distributions.

The commish is already on record saying he was looking into distribution penalties for USC/UCLA.

I'm gonna need to see where even one of the other 8 departing members objected to that until they themselves opted to depart.

Apparently the Supreme Court didn't see it. LOL

I don't think the 10 departing members will get stiffed, but they're gonna take a reduced share. USC/UCLA likely won't GAF because they get full Big 10 distributions, but the other 8 will be crying.

I thought the 12 spot in the CFP was reserved for the highest ranked g5 team.
So if there’s no g5 team ‘naturally’ in the top 11, the p5 teams are only vying for 11 spots.
If a team is g5, they don’t have to make the top 11 ‘naturally’; they just have to be the best g5 team.
So, being a p5 team is a negative when it comes to getting a CFP spot if you’re in that general range of ranking.
ORST and WSU would have an easier time making the CFP if they indeed lost their p5 status.

And in 2031?

Don't move the goalposts, you flaming idiot.
We're talking about your exit distributions from the PAC.
You'll be lucky to get a one time payment of $15 million. WSU/OSU now own you. You no longer have a voice in decision making.
Tick-Tock on Kliakoff being shown the door too.

Similarly, at the time of the post, all UO or UW had to do was vote nay on any OSU WSU proposal and they would be powerless to do anything.

In terms of revenue distribution, nothing is changing from the contractually agreed upon amounts.
