23-24 Portal boyz

This is actually an area where I think ND is doing it right.

I think we’re starting to see a lot of guys are not getting everything they were promised. It becomes a distraction and may fuel more portal jumping.

ND makes sure everyone gets a piece of the pie. Obviously the top talents can do their own thing but even knows they’re guaranteed something.

It may not be what some of the outlandish numbers we hear about but to hear some players tell it they’re not even getting that either.
Oklahoma is similar and in fact was one of the first to have NIL for other sports. Womens softball for instance, those girls are getting paid.

Except we always seem to get outbid by the SEC or Miami types. So we are just gonna end up with 3* caliber talents in the portal too.

Completely ridiculous that a school with the resources and huge alumni network Ohio State has can't put together a competitive NIL plan.
Buddy, we got outbid by Nebraska for the top QB recruit in the country. Georgia has also lost a lot more than it has gained through the portal.

Y’all are gonna be fine. These star ratings don’t mean a ton.

Losing 2 elite DL recruits at the last hour and being left with 1 DL in the class who's a 3* is a pretty big deal i'd say along with last years DL recruiting failures as well. If we don't get some pretty good portal wins this sets the DL back big the next 3 or so years

Gotta develop what you have. Jordan Davis was a 3 star. With the portal, these recruiting classes don’t mean a ton either

USC is who should be concerned. Mediocre recruiting class coming in with a ton of talent in the portal.

Y’all just need a real QB to go with all that talent at receiver to be natty contenders. I mean, y’all ain’t beating Michigan regardless, but 12 team playoff now

Only 1 DL in a class creates a numbers problem.

Day needs to get fired too if he doesn't fire Larry Johnson SR after the Cotton Bowl, guy has not been able to hold on to recruits and he also has not developed the DL well at all the last 3-4 years.

The development is an issue, but can’t blame the position coach for getting outbid

Scott was a NIL bidding issue. Houston and the DL he couldn't close on last year were because he's old as fuck and from all accounts doesn't really like recruiting anymore. It's SUPER easy to negative recruit and hammer on LJsr because he can't possibly be around more than a couple more years. He shouldn't be though cause he needs to be fired.

The whole negative recruiting an old guy makes zero sense to me. I always wanna say, I hate to tell you, but any young guy worth a damn ain't gonna be around as a position coach very long either. He is gonna take a promotion elsewhere with the rare ones going up the ladder bc they are loyal to the school they are at

Recruits supposedly love LJsr at first, but he's old as fuck and refuses to get with the times (doesn't like to text and stuff like that) and apparently is bad at staying in touch throughout the process. Day is even more proving he is a shit head coach the longer he keeps him around, he is costing us big time when it comes to DL recruiting the last 3+ years now and as i've said a million times too, outright failure to develop the DL has has gotten pretty much at all in that same time frame.

The current system is not sustainable, it will play itself out. People with money don’t like to feel like they are throwing it away and only one team wins every year. Imagine continuously going back to the same guy for money after the last 3 or whatever he paid for didn’t pan out. Contracts are coming, they have to be.

Yeah I'm starting to agree he has to go. Especially if they lose Houston now too.

His ability to develop a kid used to be second none but has definitely came up lacking as of late.

If he was still developing kids at a high level it wouldn't be as bad. But closing this class with fucking 1 DL (whos a 3 star) is just not acceptable. With the failures of the last couple of years on top of that. Hopefully we can open up the NIL checkbook finally for some DL in the portal because we are going to badly need it in the coming years.

If Day really wants to keep him around, bring in a new DL coach and give LJsr one of those bullshit "analyst " roles.

that or they could be thinking.. they took high ranked players and they didn't turn them into Bosa bros or Chase Young either

Everyone wants to talk about young and the Bosas but those dudes were all freaks and SUPPOSED to be that good.

I always said LJs biggest success story is Sam Hubbard. Dude took a white former lacrosse player and turned him into an animal on the defensive line who has no had a very successful NFL career

lol that's not the reason he sucks... he was overrated.. a player that high should be able to get on the field more and have more than 2.5 sacks in 2 years
Choosing the grab bag over teams who are known for developing talent.
Kid had clear red flags

He's failed to develop JTT or Sawyer at all pretty much, both have been massively underwhelming outside of maybe a few games. They pretty much look about the same they did as freshman.

His development with the other guys who've been around the last 3-4 years has not been good at all either.

I wouldn't say at all. JT and Sawyer were both supposed to come in and be like the Bosas and Young though so they had massive expectations. Instead they have been more like Jonathan Cooper who is still doing pretty good in the league today

Nobody on our DL has ANY pass rush moves, seems all he teaches is bull rush because that's pretty much all these guys have done that past couple of years.

Yeah but also I think Texas A&M and USC have shown how not to do it.

you should be happy, u dodged this bullet cause no matter the coaching.. a kid ranked that high should be getting more PT.. and the fact that he really can't should speak volumes
