DeBoer Replaces Saban

I fucking hope we don't go after your coach. Love Smith, but not as our HC.

And I don't want zona's coach either. I'll pass.
I'm gonna check out pretty hard if it's Fisch. He'd probably do okay, but isn't going to be a long term guy with stronger ties all over the place.

I still say it's a great time to give Tui a chance. Got nothing to lose as things sit right now.

I know Arizona fans are hoping y'all don't go with Fisch. He's quickly became an icon in these parts, at least among the people who follow Arizona football. But there's no denying that would be a step up for him. I was having to tell the locals here that they were improving for a while, they just assumed they sucked.

Knowing he'd likely bail for anything in Florida or the NFL is why I have no interest. Turnover is going to kill this program. Petersen's 6 and Sark's 5 years are the closest thing UW has had to stability this century. DeBoer was able to come in and have success right away because he's a great coach who inherited what was left of Petersen's culture and guys after Lake quickly flamed out. That model isn't sustainable, the next guy can be the best coach of ever but the cupboards are gonna be pretty bare. They might be able to salvage a respectable season with the portal, but we desperately need a guy who wants to stick around and build and provide stability.

I think that has to be a main priority this hiring round, and why I'm getting more on board with the idea of bringing in a former superstar alum who's had a solid career as an assistant/coordinator/recruiter but only has 1 game of head coaching experience. This seems like the perfect time to give that experiment a try.

We got spoiled by a coach that did it the right way. ^^^ is the vid of the first time Petersen was back in Boise after becoming our coach and you could see the love and respect from his former players.

At the time I didn't like how he left the kids at Fresno and clearly having most of the team find out from ESPN he was gone before he bothered to attempt to communicate with them has many of them not so happy with him today.

KDB has a tall order at hand. Not just filling in Saban's shoes, but Saban still having an office near his and being a regular presence. He's an easy enough going guy to get along with and should do fine with it. Still I'm guessing he is at the NFL level within 3 years. Just seems like how he rolls.

And now the leaks from the team meeting start, the fucking nerd won't even own his choice.

My dude left Washington for Alabama. It's not that hard to understand
It doesn't need to be. It was going to be a heal move regardless, but not getting word to the team until after official reports came out, giving a quivering speech to them after the fact where he doesn't even fully own it as a choice he made, all bad looks.

To your point--"I was presented with an opportunity to take my dream job, I couldn't pass it up" before he spent all morning wasting the AD's time and the story came out > whatever sniveling bullshit that was after it was widely reported.

I get the hard feelings from Washington fans.

Time will tell whether or not DeBoer made a good decision. Following in Saban's footsteps could end up being a career killer.

I also get the upside things he had to consider..... He'll get full everything at Alabama. An established SEC team and one of the all-time greatest CFB programs. If you can't make it at Alabama where can you make it?

Had he taken Washington into the Big 10, not only are they conference newbs, they'll be doing it at less than half of full distribution share until 2029/2030.

I'm not convinced Lanning even got an Alabama offer. He's (0-3) against DeBoer. That zero had a lot to do with in-game decision making. I trust that the upper echelons at Alabama debated that point.

Oregon beat DeBoer before...I'm sure they can do it again.

LMAO!!

31 - 24 in Eugene when DeBoer was coaching Fresno St?

Fresno St also lost to (6-7) Hawaii that season.

You're hanging your hat on that?

The irony is he apparently played a not insignificant role in the push to join the Big 10 with the former AD who left for USC right after it was done. They made the choice, made it happen, and then both bailed.

I don't know what other options there were, and it certainly seems like the right move, but something unsettling about the people who made it happen ducking out before wading into those uncertain waters.

Y'all made the right decision joining the Big 10.

Regarding prestige...

1. USC
2. Washington
3. UCLA
4. Oregon

He didn’t get an offer - he turned down an interview as well as at least four other coaches we know about.

Uh, we don't know who they asked to interview or offered. If that's true though, Lanning needs to up his business game. He's the only one of the names that came up that didn't get a juicy extension (or offered one, in DeBoer's case).
