Who will be the top 5 SEC programs over the NEXT 5 seasons?

I don't think anything will come of this ncaa thing. I just like their upward trajectory. Them and Ole Miss will probably be about the same so I have no problem with someone having Ole Miss.
Was there an update on the NCAA situation? When it first broke it sounded like a pretty huge violation, and TN can't afford to have that happen right now, especially if it means having to hire yet another HC.

No, but in this day and age ncaa violations don't exactly mean what they used too. I can't really see anything serious coming from this.

You definitely could be right, but I wouldn't put it past the NCAA to try and make an example of them. I didn't read the details, but if it's a massive violation of NIL rules that landed them a major 5* QB, I could see it being really bad. Either way, it's just a headache for a program that desperately needs some consistency.

I think Tennessee and LSU flounder this year. I agree with you on Daniels carrying LSU and I can't trust Brian Kelly, and Tennessee looks like a mess right now with everything going on.

Oklahoma could end up being great in the long run but they have to gain consistency. They beat Texas but followed that up by barely surviving UCF and losing to Kansas and Oklahoma State, and it's not going to get easier. Recruiting is good and coaching seems to be the right fit.

Agree on Ole Miss for sure, I think they're definitely in a great spot. Auburn, we'll see. the 2020s have been awful there and last year was a major low note.

Missouri is definitely on people's radar now, but I think they have a great coach and definitely have talent. 2024 will be a huge year for them, especially with the new CFP format.

On any given year, the SEC does tend to be top-heavy it seems. 6 teams have won a title since 1998, but Tennessee, Florida, and Auburn have been the model of mismanagement of talent and shit coaching for most of the last decade or so.
People forget the 2017 season when Auburn beat both Georgia and Alabama but lost in the SEC game (mostly because we didn't have anyone healthy as the guys almost killed themselves to get those wins). People also forget that Auburn really should have beat Alabama 2 of the last 3 years and only lost because of gross negligence. Things are getting right on the plains and will take a couple of more years but they will be in the conversation.

Tennessee will consistently be in the top 5 group but will fall out in years also as they seem to have righted the ship and rowing in the same direction.

Ole Miss is the really scary one because Lane pretty much has absolute control with no interference as nobody wants to screw it up. Now it's Lane we are talking about so winning a natty is out of the question because he coaches like Kevin Costner's character played golf in Tin Cup. They will consistently be a top 5 team and act as a spoiler.

Missouri plays Auburn, Alabama and Oklahoma next year so it will be a shock.

That Kevin Costner line gave me a chuckle.

2017 Auburn was very solid, but that was also their last season of double digit wins. 2020-2024 has ben awful there, and last year was especially bad. He's gotta get the QB spot figured out, duds like Thorne will never lead to much success. 2024 will be a really important year for them IMO.

I want to like TN but damn, they just can't stop stepping on their own feet. This QB situation is just another headache in a long line of them with sporadic success sprinkled in.

Missouri has a chance to prove themselves with that schedule next year, there's no doubt. They seem to have a lot to be excited about at least.

With divisions going away it will be interesting to see how it all plays out because there have been some really good West Teams that have gone through a gauntlet while the East was an easier path and that changes things.
And some schedules are much more friendly than others.

That is always the case.

For Auburn it can't get any worse because we play Bama and Georgia every year no matter what and I don't see it changing. I actually see all this as a positive for Auburn because we don't have to play LSU every year and have shot to pick up Vandy as a permanent opponent in the future. Works for us.

With the transfer portal, these really mean nothing these days. A team can change almost its entire roster in a single offseason -- see Colorado.
Yeah, no. Those schools recruiting at the highest levels for high school talent will still be the best teams. The best formula is:

- Great high school recruits.
- Re-recruit your team each year and dedicate your NIL to this.
- Fill the gaps with transfers, dedicating the next amount of NIL to this.

No team that has relied on the portal has won anything as of yet.

That is our insider pet name so just keep it out of your mouth and there won't be any trouble.
I was worried when you said they are going to make the wagon disappear.
Because I've never seen that Plainsman dude

We've really only had two seasons of the transfer portal, with these new rules. My guess this is the year where you see the transfers have a significant role in winning/losing and making the cfp. Teams like Oregon, Ole Miss, OSU and ND will all be relying on transfers, and I'd say all have a great shot at making the cfp, and maybe even FSU too. And I think Oregon and OSU have a great shot at winning it.

.......Michigan didn't average a top 10 class over the last 4 years and just won a national title because of, largely, some of the portal players we picked up the last two years. I'm just saying that top 5 classes can easily, and do, leave. Alabama's roster got gutted as soon as saban left.

well that and having several 6th and 7th year players

I wouldn't say OSU is relying on their transfers nearly as much as they are the guys that are coming back.

Sure, but your starting QB is a transfer. IMO that's relying pretty heavily on the portal. Downs, Judkins and McLaughlin will also play prominent roles. But the big reason is because of the QB.
