Megalopolis is a science fiction film that Francis Ford Coppola has been trying to develop for decades, since 1979. It will release on Friday, September 27, 2024 and stars Adam Driver and Giancarlo Esposito as two men battling over their respective visions for a utopian city and Esposito's character's daughter, played by Nathalie Emmanuel. The cast will reportedly also include Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, and Dustin Hoffman.

I've been following this movies for years, hopefully but low expectations since he hasn't made anything good since Dracula in 1991 and not anything great since Apocalypse Now in 1979.

But the trailer looks promising. I like to stay away from reading the plot but from the brief descriptions of the script that I have read it's an apparently very odd movie and the trailer certainly did not disappoint in that being confirmed. I'm all in for an original well made completely unique weird movie.

It’s impossible for me to have lower expectations for this film.
in an era where most movies have trouble at the box office, the amount of his own money he spent, the negative press this film has received for years, i'm not sure if it'll hit in theaters, but it's going to be a cult film if nothing else.

Full trailer (edit/update: LionsGate took down their own trailer; see post below for why):

Adam Driver is a weird looking guy.

Glad he's not in anything good so I haven't had to watch him.

Anya Taylor-Joy is weird looking too, and I had to watch her in Peaky Blinders.

Uh-oh: During the filming of Megalopolis, 85-year-old Francis Ford Coppola...:

The Guardian said:
allegedly pulled women to sit on his lap, for example. And during one bacchanalian nightclub scene being shot for the film, witnesses say, Coppola came on to the set and tried to kiss some of the topless and scantily clad female extras. He apparently claimed he was "trying to get them in the mood".

Variety: "Video of Francis Ford Coppola Kissing Megalopolis Extras Surfaces as Crew Members Detail Unprofessional Behavior on Set":

Variety said:
Video has surfaced of director Francis Ford Coppola that shows the legendary director trying to kiss young female extras on the set of his ambitious sci-fi epic.

Variety said:
The filmmaker kept leaping up to hug and kiss several women, often inadvertently inserting himself into the shot and ruining it

Variety said:
Coppola got on a microphone and announced in earshot of everyone in the room, "Sorry, if I come up to you and kiss you. Just know it's solely for my pleasure."

Variety said:
Coppola's team provided two on the record statements from people involved with the production. [...] "Francis walked around the set to establish the spirit of the scene by giving kind hugs and kisses on the cheek to the cast and background players. It was his way to help inspire and establish the club atmosphere, which was so important to the film."

Variety said:
"Because Coppola funded it there was no HR department to keep things in check," says a second source. "Who were they supposed to talk to? Complain to Coppola and report Coppola to himself?”

The Last Duel, Marriage Story and Paterson are good.

Wait a sec... this movie's a trainwreck, it has Shia LaBoeuf in it, and he's NOT the reason why?

Fixed trailer after studio pulled previous one:

still have an hour left, but it's a mess. feels like he had random ideas for scenes he wanted to put in a movie.

lot's of Shakespearean wannabe monologues (some taken from Shakespeare).
A romeo and juliet story arch with characters named Cesar and Cicero... and also Wow Platinum
Shia LaBeouf going full Cage
Jon Voight seemingly unaware of where he is half the time.

and still an hour left.
