Pac12 expansion - looking to add 4 teams

The Pac still has to work out a TV deal. Something that hasn't been done yet.

Kind of important.

They should look to bring in the service academies. Not sure how feasible that is, tho.

You misspelled 6-pac

Yes sir I did. Thanks for the correction

There's also the small chance the PAC convinces Tulane, Memphis, USF etc. to join and become the strongest G5 conference by far. I don't think those schools will think the value is worth the travel but who knows.

Despite the geographical ridiculousness I’d like to see this happen and then add UNLV too eventually after the outrageous MWC buyout amount calms down in a few years. Regardless of whether or not they’re tethered to Nevada they’d be foolish not to want to improve their situation.

You asked this question:

Then answered it lolololol:

and I highly disagree they weren't a viable B12 option. But unfortunately the urgency to bring them in isn't there.

This is crazy, they went from 2 years ago getting paid over $30 mill to going to $10 and you're asking how it's a downgrade?? Like seriously??

I don't understand why you keep comparing it to something that no longer exists? They aren't making $30 million currently. They are making most likely $3-$4 million with CW and 3 games on Fox.

They weren't/aren't a viable option for the B12 because if they were, they would be there now. They weren't even one of the next options according to B12 commissioner.

They needed to act now because of the 2026 summer deadline. From a financial standpoint this makes all the sense in the world.

You yourself admitted it’s downgrade. Really not sure what you are confused about here. They made over $30 million 2 years ago. They have the PAC war chest to pay themselves this year and the next. Then they go to G status making a 1/3rd of what they used to make.

Not being one of the next options doesn’t mean they weren’t viable. There was just no urgency and I would guarantee they’d get more votes in then UConn.

From a financial standpoint it’s a downgrade no matter if they had to do it or not. You’ve even admitted such.

Well because they aren't making $30 million a year anymore? And there are no prospects for them to make that? I can guarantee, because of this move, and the impending additions, they will UPGRADE their current TV deal and make more money in the process. Hell I bet they can even come close to what Stanford and Cal are getting in the ACC.

Yes, there was no urgency to add them in the B12, and that's a huge thing because of the 2026 NCAA deadline. And the longer this goes on the more in exit fees the Mtn West schools would have to pay. Once the scheduling agreement deadline passed with the Mtn West they needed to act fast. This move made the most sense, in terms of survival and financial, which is why they did it.

They probably are making $30 million If we are being honest. They got a $200 million settlement from the departing PAC schools and thinking that isn’t used for the next couple of years is crazy. They aren’t just relying on a milli9n dollars a home game from the CW. Really not sure what Stanford or cal are making in the ACC but I guarantee it won’t be half of what everyone else in the ACC (save SMU) is making. And that’s my whole point.

It’s 2024. The MWC media deal goes until the end of next school year (2026). They literally could have asked them to wait a bit longer. I understand they needed a conference and maybe they did exhaust all options but this seems to come on suddenly. And again just because this made the most sense (debatable) doesn’t mean it’s not a downgrade.

Plus this argument isn’t even touching the Power status argument that really does matter when comes to ranking teams to make the playoff

In reading through the details of it all, Wazzu and OSU were up against the gun, needed to act swiftly, and really didn’t have any better options.

They did have to act suddenly because of the NCAA deadline, and by waiting, the exit fees would be even more because those schools need to give an adequate heads up. They needed to be in a conference. Right now, they technically are not in one.

Yes, they have a huge war chest. And have used that to make a conference, and a shot at the CFP.

The longer they waited the more money they would spent in exit fees for the Mtn West schools.

Yes they have a war chest, it’s not going to last forever. Pretending the CW is paying their athletic department bills is insane. They are going to go from $6 million from the CW and a war chest of $200 mill to you estimated $10 to $12 million a year that’s it. All the while having the same shot at a playoff as every other mid major. Thats a downgrade, regardless of if they had to make this move or not.

It's a downgrade from what they were in the old iteration of the P12. It's an upgrade from what they currently are. They aren't in a conference, now they will be by the 2026 deadline. I haven't seen any media member say this was a bad move or downgrade from their current situation.

I’m not looking for peoples opinion. I’m looking at numbers. There is zero chance a mill a year for every home game from the CW is paying athletic department bills. That war chest is getting used. So it’s highly doubtful in my opinion this will be an upgrade money wise from what they are at right now. Especially when that war chest runs out when this conference reopens.

I understand time wasn’t on their side, but them adding nothing but teams from the MWC and other midmajors isn’t going to raise their profile back to Autonomous status. And that’s absolutely going to affect how much they take in from a media deal and the playoffs.

Yes, it's getting used to rebuild their conference, something they aren't in currently. They put that money aside strictly for this reason. It would cost them more money the longer they waited. It cost them $14 million to do the scheduling agreement this year with the Mtn West. According to what I read they wanted more for 2025. And they'd still be no closer to being in a conference and washed away another $15-$20 million. It would cost them double in exit fees if the schools gave less than a years notice. That's obviously huge.

And it doesn't matter anymore about P5 or AQ status since the top 5 conferences make it. Now that they are in a conference, they will receive a share of that, it's not a lot, but more than they currently are.

It’s also getting used to pay their bills. There is no chance those athletic departments are surviving on CW home games. And the MWC wanted more because they were obviously wise to what was happening behind the scenes. The PAC will be a glorified mid major, which will absolutely matter in 2026 when this playoff likely goes to 14 and the Autonomous conferences get assurances (autobids) while the PAC is stuck fighting other midmajors for that one spot. Doing what you have to do doesn’t mean it isn’t a downgrade.

Yes, it will be a glorified Mid Major League, which is an upgrade right now because they aren't currently in a league. They currently have no access to the CFP, they now will. Will the league be guaranteed a spot? No, but the P2 will at least have a chance. Had they waited, it would have cost MORE money to bring in teams from the Mtn West. They are saving $68 million by doing this now. On top of saving money by not doing a scheduling agreement. They don't do this now, I don't think it's even financially feasible to do it a year from now.

While PAC may help some, they aren’t paying the whole thing. The only thing they owe the MWC is $40 million per this years scheduling agreement. Again I’m not arguing this wasnt necessary, I’m strictly arguing this is a downgrade. Regardless of it was necessary or not.

The scheduling agreement is $14 million for 2024. Within that agreement was the "poaching" clause. Which started at $10 million and increased by $500K per team, which is where the $43 million comes from. According to what I've read the P2 are going to cover most of the exit fees cost, if not all.

I'm not sure how you can say this move was necessary, but also a downgrade? That doesn't make any sense to me. The P2 currently have nothing. Now they will.

I’ve read it’s $43 million in poaching fees the PAC owes via this years scheduling agreement and $18 million a team leaving which those schools themselves will be largely responsible for.

You yourself admitted it’s a downgrade. How the hell can you say you don’t understand? Not only will they (OSU/WSU) be earning less when this chest runs out, they also will be in a mid major conference.
