Week 7 Coaches Poll

It's an outlook based on facts. It's based on what we've seen at this point in the season.

Not some fairy dust.
Not really, you admit that the best team doesn’t always win and then only apply on field results in a singular circumstance. It’s a bit more nuanced than that.

This is why I don’t get caught up in early rankings. Only 5-6 games in, but most teams have probably played 1-2 competitive teams. The top 2 teams in the poll have played nobody, but somehow we are sure Texas and OSU are the best based on preseason hype and a weak opening schedule. They maybe be the best, but they certainly haven’t proved it

Those early rankings affect later season rankings.

The fact is SEC teams are not held accountable for losses or shitty play.

I told everybody they were going to "launch" A&M in the polls (up 10 spots), even though an unbiased set of eyeballs told us Missouri was extremely overrated at #9.
Missouri was an undefeated SEC team though. So obviously Top 10, right?

Launching A&M 10 spots is completely justified since they beat a Top 10 team, right?
Keeping Missouri in the Top 25 is completely justified because they're SEC and they'll be playing other SEC teams so it'll look better for those other SEC teams when they beat Missouri, right?

You have a point with Missouri, but I think A&M is properly rated. There are a lot more glaring issues with the polls in regards to the SEC than A&M.

I mean clearly a 2 loss Michigan is way better than a 2 loss Washington.

Clearly
I mean a two loss Michigan or Washington is less deserving of a ranking than many one loss P4 teams. I will just thrown Nebraska in there as an example. You wanna be ranked ... WIN!!!!

I thought green was the code for sarcasm?

I honestly don't care about ranking. But I do sometimes like to poke fun at the silliness of them.

From what I've seen of Michigan, we won't have to worry about their ranking for much longer. It will work itself out. ;)

Of course you do.

That wouldn't be because Notre Dame beat A&M in College Station by 10 points would it?

The Notre Dame that lost to Northern Illinois?

Naw. No bias there. LOL

No, it has nothing to do with ND. I didn't think USC deserved to be ranked where they were, even though them being highly ranked would benefit ND. I don't even think I had ND ranked as of a couple weeks ago.

A&M is top 15 in SoR, GC, SP+, FPI, and efficiency.

Notre Dame needs a highly ranked A&M to justify their ranking and a play-off spot.

LOL at Northern Illinois losing to Buffalo.
LOL at Buffalo losing to UConn 47-3.

LOL LOL LOL

Not really. If ND goes 11-1 they'll get in no matter what A&M does.

Either way, you've successfully turned this into an ND discussion because I guess you can't justify your position on A&M, other than proclaiming SEC bias. Which yeah, there is some given where they have teams ranked, but not because of A&M.

Notre Dame will get in at 10-2 because of the A&M win.

A&M justifies it because SEC SEC SEC.

It just means more.

Chris Petersen said last night he doesn't think there is enough reliable data to rank teams prior to November. I totally agree with him. Too many teams are ranked where they are right now solely based on what you mentioned, not merit.

Thankfully the real rankings don't come out yet

You can do it, because it is fun. It’s only harmful if you let your pride get in the way. Rank them based on the current information and don’t worry about how that looks the next week

IMO there shouldn’t be any form of an “official” poll until at least half of all conference games are played. Even that might be too soon, if we’re talking about total objectivity.

There is enough data in a season to rank that season. There should be no bleed over from previous games or seasons.

Build as robust of a ‘system’ you want…the fancy monkeys will fuck it all up per usual. :dhd:

I am not sure about that. A&M may end up being the only ranked team ND played all year. They were will be legit arguments that a 10-2 team belongs over them.
