HooplaNation's College Football Week 8 Ranking - Discussion Thread

This is said every year when it is first released. Then, it works itself out. If it is in relation to Ohio State, they have beaten one team with a winning record (Iowa).
Even check these rankings for Ohio State:
Colley 14th
mcubed 19th
CPI Ratings 18th

or BYU at 2nd? They have beaten Kansas State and SMU.

Just let the season play out.

I'm sure it will all settle out, but I do scratch my head at 3 of the top 5 teams being out of the big12.

I know... and they will eventually devour each other.

Usually I think the equation derived rankings are stupid because there's not enough data for it to be statistically significant. But if Oregon is #1, then it's clearly a well thought out process.
I agree with that this point in the season. I will say I like to look at the progress over the season.

We got to stop ranking mediocre G5 teams for beating really bad ones IMO

Sounds good.

I'll start doing that when we stop ranking P5 teams that lose to or struggle with mediocre G5 teams.
Or ranking P5 teams that lost/struggled with other P5 teams that lost to mediocre G5 teams.

"yOu CaN't uSe TeH tRaNsiTiVe PrOpErTy"

OK. Then stop using the transitive property on wins. You can't have it both ways.
"wE BeAt a ToP 10 tEaM"
Cool. Maybe that team shouldn't have been in the Top 10?

I rank according to wins/losses. You lose you drop behind other undefeated teams. Lose again (two losses) and you drop behind other one loss teams.

Winning should be rewarded. Winning is good coaching and/or players executing.
Losing should be held accountable. Losing is bad coaching and/or players not executing.

Is the committee obligated to take a 12-0 Liberty over any other 12-1 G5 conference champ? If not, I can't possibly fathom them doing so.
They can absolutely leave them out. They left out an undefeated P4 team last year. It was only 4 teams though.

For sure, but I was thinking since there's a G5 autobid I wasn't sure if they would just have their choice of which G5 to take. I guess whatever their final rankings are will determine it.

I see what you are saying. IMO, if the committee disregards the quality of the schedule, I think the B1G and SEC commissioners will immediately move to a new playoff structure.

But I think the committee will give a lot of credit for schedules bot in and out of conference. They didn’t bat an eye last year when they left FSU out. And they got it right. IMO they got it right every year.

Here's a Transitive Property thought regarding rankings.

Notre Dame beat A&M 23-13 (10 pts) @ College Station, TX. (Notre Dame >> A&M)
Northern Illinois beat Notre Dame (16-14) @ South Bend, Indiana. (Northern Illinois >> Notre Dame)
A&M beat Bowling Green 26-20 (6 pts) @ College Station, TX. (Texas A&M >> Bowling Green)
Northern Illinois beat Bowling Green 17-7 (10 pts) @ Bowling Green, OH. (Northern Illinois >> Bowling Green)

Northern Illinois >> A&M.

Not one transitive property but two transitive properties both involving Northern Illinois and A&M.

SEC. It just means more.
