Fuck the recruiting thread, this deserves its own. #1 player in the nation QB Bryce Underwood flipping to Michigan!

You'd rather have a 5*, no. 1 ranked QB, than not. But, of all positions, QB is the one you can work around. We won B2B natties with a 32 year old, PWO midget.
That walk on has to be serviceable though. I think UGA just got lucky with that one. He was technically a 3 star but walked on at UGA. It also helps to have like crazy elite 5 stars at every position around him. I don't think Michigan is going to be getting the like 15-20 five stars on the roster UGA had when Bennett was on the team, but we can work towards that. In the meantime, I think getting the #1 prospect, a Qb, is pretty much the singularly most important one to get.

See, Ravioli at Nebraska.
Nebraska might actually make a bowl game for the first time since Obama. I think that's actually a great example how much a QB like that can change a team.

Nebraska went 5-7 last year and 5 of those losses were by 1 score. Best they can do is 7-5 this year. I wouldn't call that a ground breaking progression. Nebraska likely woulda gotten a bit better even without Raiola.

Teams like UGA can win with a guy like Stetson because of the ridiculous talent around them.

Davis Warren might be a ok QB on a team with a at least serviceable OL and WRs. Michigan has neither of those, all to the fault of the coaching.

Well, I'd say it's mostly the fault of the previous coaches who went all in on a single year and knew there was nothing in the wings (offensively at least). To be fair, we did have some guys (specifically at WR) that left pretty much as soon as harbaugh was out the door. Would have probably been really helpful to have this year.

Michigan is gonna need to go full Colorado and bring in like 20 portal players this offseason because the depth get even worse next year. Harbaugh snoozing on recruiting the last couple years is really starting to show.

I don't think we need 20. I think Michigan probably needs a backup QB, 2-3 OL, 2-3 WR and then on defense, probably a couple DBs. Maybe a LB? But we're talking a portal class of like 7-10

I think the main problem with this situation is the kid would not had even pondered playing for Moore and staff without that 12 mil or whatever being dangled. If things don’t go well out of the gate he will be gone to somewhere else quick.
So he signs, then the penalties for the repeated cheating and cover ups comes out which hampers the team, and the kid transfers out.

I hope they pay him the full NIL at signing :dhd:

The guys Michigan goes after do. There is zero chance Michigan will ever sign guys where their life is only football.

Go look at every 5 star guy Michigan has signed (outside Bryce Underwood, who I have no idea of his grades). Every single one of them are honor roll kids in HS and have parents that stress academics. Those are the top football guys UM gets. We don't get the 'I didn't come to play school' players.

That is why UM doesn't sign a ton of 5 star kids. As a fan, I WANT UM to be a football factory - I don't care about their grades. The administration does though.
Unless your football team has a 100% graduation rate, yes you do have kids who are only about football.

Sadly the NIL budget was blown on the QB.

Maybe I'm being naive but I think it's hard to imagine it being worse than this year. We're starting a walk-on at QB after cycling through a 7th year multi transfer product who quit football, and a TE cosplaying as QB. Michigan's RB room is relatively stacked well, we have a lot of young talent still to play at offensive line (we had 5 offensive lineman in the 2024 class, including our highest rated recruit) and defense has recruited well.

Throw in a couple transfer prospects at OL, get a couple WR's and I think the offense can make a pretty quick turnaround. But they need to get that in the portal. I think Underwood is starting no matter what, but I think they need to get a backup prospect in the portal.
You're still forgetting the most important part - the michigan offensive coaching staff is dogshit. Moore has no business being anything above a position coach, perhaps a co-OC, but that's about it. I get the pass game is shit, but the run game is also shit this year. He is in way over his head.

But it doesn’t do so for just Michigan. Though, the rumored $10 million seems to be false. Seems like it was still only a few million with LSU only offering $1.5. That said, with no cap it changes the market moving forward for all teams.

We’re currently in a bit of an unregulated arms race.
$10m was false. It was $12.5m.

Moore had been the OL coach since 2021 so the OL being dog shit is directly on him too. I think we all knew they were gonna struggle to throw the ball but the run game falling off the cliff as much as it has is kind of a little surprise. Thought theyd still be around a top 25 rushing offense. They are like 75th

Sadly the NIL budget was blown on the QB.
The guy who funded the collective for Underwood -- he is worth $200 billion dollars. So money won't be an issue if UM's administration is allowing them to go in on NIL deals now.

I'm interested to see if this is a one time thing or if Michigan goes all in with NIL. If Michigan goes all in on NIL -- few schools could match the alumni backing Michigan would have. I'm not sold on this though. We shall see.

Once again just because someone has the money doesn't mean they are going to be constantly willing to hand it over for a college football team. Also a risky situation for Michigan with a new donor who's never given to the football program before, if this does not work out he's liable to never do it again. I'm assuming he's a guy whos gonna wanna see positive ROI

It wasn't. It was reported to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 million when all said and done.

As the No. 1 quarterback in his class, Underwood is expected to command an NIL deal worth at least $5 million, according to On3.

Teh $12 million thing was laughed at by Sam Webb -- just some other insiders making shit up from the sound of it. Same ones who said Michigan was out a couple weeks ago.

Michigan, Purdue, and A&M are all tied for the most alumni who are CEO's on the Fortune 500. The ability is there, just gotta join us. :suds:
