ACC Basketball

ACC may go winless tonight, lmao.

for historical context, this would be like if C-USA became the best conference in football and just start pounding down the SEC or Big Ten. just insane shit.
Not sure how conference usa is the equivalent to the SEC.

Don’t worry guys. Clemson will carry the conference for you. Fuck you kentucky. You just got man handled by the Chef

Historically, programs like Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, UGA have been terrible at basketball. And Bama to a little bit lesser of an extent. Now you have Ole Miss just crushing a blue blood like Louisville, UGA crushing a historically good ND program, and A&M beating Wake.

Historically the SEC was typically the 6th best P6 program, until about the last 5 years or so. So credit to them for that. Plus adding OU and TX, even though they aren't what they are in football, are still good basketball programs with good history. But after UK and UF the league was typically pretty bad. Now there's about 11/12 teams that can make the tournament.

I will say the QF's of the SECT are going to be insane.

Biggest game tonight for the ACC is Bama vs. UNC. If UNC loses, and with neutral court games against Florida and UCLA, a loss here, followed up with losses in those games, they'll have to go something like 16-4 in ACC play to be in position for an at large. And that might not still be enough depending on who the wins are against.

Pitt and Clemson have put themselves into great position, as has Duke (a win tonight would be huge though), but after that it's tough to see anyone else making a case for an at large, outside of getting to 15/16 wins in conference.

That's an exaggeration but it used to be that schools like Auburn really didn't care about basketball.

Plus all the good players used to be from NYC and North Carolina. And good luck getting them to go to Alabama.

Now, good players come from all over and you can pay kids to go to Creighton, Nebraska.

UNC is in some serious trouble if they can't beat Florida or UCLA.

This conference is ass. Just make the P2 official and regulate everyone else to D2 status

Lol at Kentucky and Auburn

Clearly top of the ACC > top of the SEC

this was the first Wake game I have watched this season in which I didn't want to hang myself over their horrible offense.

only shot it from deep 13 times and made 5. single digit turnovers. pounded it inside. only won by 6 because BC went 12/30 from deep.

UNC is not a tournament team

Way they are playing I doubt they beat UCLA or Florida. Gonna have to get to like 16 wins in ACC play if they don't.

Hubert is not the guy

Seems to be an every other year thing. Although his first year was a little luck. They were mediocre the whole year til March.

Last year was the only year where UNC felt like UNC under Hubert.

year 1- NIT bound until a fluke run at the end.
year 2 was NIT
they were legitimately good last year.
this year is looking like year #2

this is the difference between the schools in the ACC and the SEC. Roy and K picked their own successors. Meanwhile, Bama picked a guy from Washington to replace Saban.

Carolina could have had anyone and they picked...Hubert Davis.

if they are NIT bound this year, i'm assuming they will give him a year #5.

I think everyone involved would have been better off with Ron Sanchez staying at Charlotte. Thought he was doing a solid job rebuilding the program and I credit last year's success to Sanchez.

Its early, but it's hard to see UVa removing the interim tag.

I can't imagine they'd keep Sanchez. It will be interesting to see who they hire. Before Bennett, they were irrelevant for about a decade and a half. I imagine it will be a pretty sought after position. Would someone like Byington leave Vandy to head back to the area? This opening, should it happen is pretty fascinating to me.
