That’s 40 years ago. Still 9am? Be reasonable. Every D2 and D3 game around me doesn’t start before 12 with most starting at 1.It was 1980 when I played. There were only a couple of games played that early over the time I played. It wasn't D1, so travel was by bus which I assume was part of the reason why there were occasional 9am games.
Even at that level, the couple of 9 am games we had weren't as well attended as the evening games. But tv viewership wasn't anything we had to worry about either.
In the realm of discussion D1A doesn’t have any that start at 9am until your Trojans tomorrow. I’m not saying viewership concerns isn’t possible but it’s ludicrous to say it’s only about viewership when ex. a WVU vs Oregon State game at 9am eastern (obviously we are playing out east) would at least get some people instead of hiding it on ESPN 2 going against other noon games. An networks do not give a shit how many eyes are seeing it live, they give a shit how many eyes see it through their networks. I’m arguing injuries play a factor in that decision to not put games on at 9am too.
