Can we just put an end to "bowl games" and come up with something different?

I don’t like the fact that every decision (or it seems like every decision) has been about money for a long time.

That said, the schools brought a lot of this own themselves. It was okay for them to take the huge amounts of money and use it for what some consider outrageous salaries, facilities and all sorts of bells and whistles.

But when the players said “Hey. How about us?”….. If they’d have set up a system to get some to the players when the money started getting huge, we might not be in this deep a pile of shit. jmo

Well, I tend to agree with your opinion here. I’m just saying that if a kid’s gonna take money from a university to play football, there should be responsibility there for the kid to play football. All of this sitting out for a bowl game is bullshit. You can get hurt just as easy in week one as you can in a bowl game. And while people say that the bowl game is meaningless., How about kids who really shines in a bowl game and their draft stock rises, because maybe they’re not playing UTSA in a regular season game they’re playing another top-tier team.

Some teams keep up with bowl wins, there was a time when it was an honor to be the MVP of the Sugar bowl or the Rose Bowl. I kind of miss those days.

I thought they had ended bowl games year ago to only start them back again this year. :noidea:

100% agree. Make it an obligation to play as well as payment just for appearance/signature sessions, blogging etc. Require a portion of the NIL/revenue sharing be put in an escrow account and let the players access it AFTER they've met playing obligations.

I'm thinking some shit like BATTLE OF THE NETWORK STARS.

Have the best players on in some twisted yet corny survival of the fittest races, competitions etc for CASH AND PRIZES. North vs South or East vs West for team events.

The only way you'll get the elite players to lift a finger outside of shooting commercials, being on podcasts and strateegerizing with their new agent(s) and management team.

Any sport needing judges you can just use whatever Mannings are available and/or some other "wide ranging appeal" former sport celebrity-types.

So here's an analogy for what has happened in college sports: A guy's wife says "Honey, I know you like me to stay home all the time but can I at least do something like go to church or attend the PTA meetings?". He figures that's fair. Next thing you know, she's turning tricks behind the 7-11.

Is she the one with the pet monkey that bit that kid on Halloween?

Even the bad matchups create tv ratings by giving something to bet on and watch. Live football will always do that.

It boggles my mind that no one could get a Nebraska (6-6) vs Oklahoma (6-6) bowl game set up.

The tv ratings would be great and the Bowl Committee (run by the host city) would have had the stadium sold out and hotels filled.

I get there are local politicians on these 'Bowl Committees', but they are also made up of "Local business people".

I'd think bars, restaurants, Ubers, etc. would have been rolling in cash.

Yep.

It’s cool that I only have to drive for 4 hrs to the game, but the matchup stinks.

Was trying to figure out where you were going with this one.

Degenerates like myself love having a game to bet on basically every day for a month
What’s the appeal? I just gamble my money in the fun of stock market and say well I’ll figure it if I won in 30 years.

Eh. Watch it to see who will start next season

This is exactly how I feel. It’s a telescope into the future, and almost like an exhibition game for the following season.

If my kid was in those kids shoes I wouldn’t want him playing either. It’s an easy decision after seeing other guys lose millions getting injured prior to the draft.

Dumb for college football to go head to head with the NFL

Don't tell me she turns out to be the one on the back of this guy's motorcycle.
