So my kids are both stationed out here, my daughter lives in San Diego and now my son is in Port Hueneme. We just delivered to Gilroy, California. Where my daughter lives is nice and decent for a the most part.. I saw a few homeless camps here and there, when I visited that area. The area my son lives in also doesn't look completely run down. We left gilroy and are headed back to Fl, and every single town we have passed looks like nothing but shanty style houses..sloppily strewn together and the yards look like junk yards.. do y'all not have laws that regulate that kind of stuff?

There are far too many laws that regulate that stuff, but they only apply to new construction or when you apply for permits to change something.

For example, when I lived in Pasadena I put an addition on my house with permits. Because I wanted to add onto my house, I had to upgrade all of the windows in the bedrooms of my 1947 house to 2009 regulations for egress. I also had to upgrade my HVAC to 2009 standards. My contractor screwed up the permits so when I sold in 2015 I had to get new permits for the HVAC to bring them up to 2015 standards, which had changed since I had the work done in 2009.

So i get that part, same in Florida. Even for windows, doors, and patios. But I'm just talking about the houses literally look like shanty homes. This was taken in Boron, California

And you have unregulated trailer parks all over the fucking place.

Hoopla Nation should definitely be your go to source for questions about California law
Not asking about California law, asking about the homes and the way they look period. I posted a picture on my response to Willie. You couldn't build something like that and it remain without the city/county government being all over it.

None of the trailer parks are unregulated. I OWNED a 110 site Mobile home park for 20 years. It was built in the mid 60s. We had to have the residents upgrade their tie downs and they had to be in good working order or the county came knocking on our door. Also no debris could be left laying around, no unregistered vehicles were allowed either.

Also as an edit, please list one MHP that's not regulated. After Hurricane Andrew hit s fl shit changed a lot after that. For instance in our park, if a mobile home was removed another one could not be put back because the fire code changed in the mid 80s. Has to be so many feet between them now.

"Unregulated" being a weird euphemism for illegal. Taking a nonfunctional trailer (e.g. flat tires, uninspected, etc.) and then parking it in an alley, someone's backyard, or on a street filled with other homeless doesn't make it a trailer park. It's not that California doesn't have the personnel or laws to regulate such illegal dwellings, it's that it's preferable to ignore that it's happening.

So i have a 2022 40 ft raptor 5th wheel, it's practically brand new, I live out in the county, a few miles from town. We go in and out of it quite a bit because we camp a lot. One of my nosy neighbors called the county on us thinking we were "living" in it because we have it plugged into the side of my house. That's not allowed in my county without certain permits and things that would have to be done in order for it to be up to code. We can't even build a lean to style barn without engineered plans that must be from a certified engineer. It's because of the hurricanes in the past 20 years. I'm not saying there aren't some run down looking mhp's, but not anywhere near where I live and certainly not in plain view of a major interstate.

Also the county I live in, wouldn't allow a non habital mh parked just anywhere. I can certainly speak for everything south of ocala.

Things are different in the desert. Not much in the way of rules out there. Desert people are different. All that sun bakes their brains.

Do a Q&A with Chicago fans about gun laws next.

Gilroy is my hometown. Garlic Capital of The World

It’s the southernmost town in Santa Clara county which is still considered the Bay Area. Boron is the cuts. Sounds like you’re headed down hwy 5 through the valley…farm country and nothing like the coast or even Gilroy, which is about 40 minutes from Santa Cruz. You’ll have to hold your nose as you get through kern county. Ew. So yeah- you’ll see lots of underdeveloped land and farm workers. Don’t forget how humongous California is…Gilroy is barely the halfway point, running north/south.

Bron is a shit hole....

Just like I imagine some cities in FL are like.

Aww sweet @moxie .. we delivered to Happy Daze rv there today and yes we are flying by the seat of our pants headed back to Fl. That's correct, we took 101 to 152 to the 5, then took 58 to i40. California's topography is super cool! Mountains, valleys, hills, beach and desert. Not many states can compare. Lots of farms on our ride today. When we hit Bakersfield, we started noticing the housing and we're just curious if it was just a low income area but we noticed there was a lot of that type housing, the further east we went. In my other travels, mainly southern Cali, we just didn't see that type of housing as much.
