In fairness, I didn’t really want an addition, but we had a baby and outgrew our house. This was right after the 2008 real estate crash and our house was underwater. Our only real option was adding on.That'll teach you to want an addition.

I don't live in an hoa. I don't live in a subdivision at all. My house was built on 3.5 acres in 1972. I actually live out in the county, 4 miles from one town and 7 from the other. However, due to complete influx of transplants in my area, along with a 55+ plus community built a stones throw from my house, people DO NOT MIND THEIR OWN DAMN BUSINESS. I had someone stop by my house back in the early 2000s after I moved back from SC and was told to trim one of my trees. I politely told them if they could show me the actual ordinance that stated that I'd be happy to oblige. Funny I never heard from them again.Damn straight

Back in the day, there was a tomato cannery in Gilroy so when we’d come home from a roadtrip out of town, we knew we were home because it smelled like spaghetti…tomatoes & garlicDefinitely the garlic capital of the world!!! I drove through Gilroy last weekend through a monsoon. Still remember 101 going through downtown Gilroy before they built the freeway. Then went over to Castroville (artichoke capital of the world) and to Santa Cruz to Gayles. What a great place that is.
One thing about that stretch of 101 Gilroy, San Martin, Morgan Hill still a lot of open space still. Silicon Valley hasn’t overrun it yet thankfully. I am out in the Tri-Valley area: Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore area and the housing boom (Dublin!!!!) has contributed to absolute madness with traffic on that 580 corridor running through there.Back in the day, there was a tomato cannery in Gilroy so when we’d come home from a roadtrip out of town, we knew we were home because it smelled like spaghetti…tomatoes & garlic![]()
Well this person showed up at my door in a county truck. So instead of telling them to fuck off.. I killed them with kindness and asked them to specifically show me which county ordinance in their book said i must trim my trees.. they just turned around, walked back to his truck and left my driveway.I like "hell no*.
Simple and final.

That was the impression I was getting. I am just a little surprised that California doesn't enforce some type of up keep code. In the county I live in when my mower got a flat tire, I parked it in front of my garage door for a week or 2 and yep code enforcement stopped by my house and told me I had to either get it in my garage or get it to the back yard where it couldn't be seen from the road. This was 3 or 4 years ago. Florida has gotten pretty particular about this stuff in the last 10 years, at least in my area of the state. I'm sure there are places that don't enforce that kind of stuff quite as well as my area, you just aren't going to see it from the road.
P common, dawg. You can’t just leave broken down shit in your front yard here either. A lot of places don’t allow it.I find it extremely hard to believe there is "code" for parking a vehicle outside your garage
A boat or trailer? Perhaps. An HOA? Sure.
Inoperable Vehicles
Inoperative vehicles are not permitted to be parked on a property within the public view. A vehicle left unattended on jacks constitutes a potential safety hazard and must be repaired or relocated immediately. A vehicle is considered inoperable if it has any of the following:
- There are flat or missing tires, the vehicle is dismantled or wrecked
- Junk is piled in, around, or under the vehicle
- The vehicle has no license plate, the vehicle has expired registration
- There are cobwebs or an accumulation of dirt or dust indicating non-use

some HOAs have those rules...but a lot of neighborhoods do not have those requirements. You evidently haven't been to Florida where they do shit like that.
