USC/ND rivalry may be done after this year..........

Just read an article where this is the last year of the USC/ND contract. Obviously ND wants to extend the contract, as they need as many big games as they can get. USC isn't willing to sign a deal, as they now have the travel schedule with the B1G and all the B1G games to play and adding another cross country trip every other year against a big program doesn't make much sense.

I hate to say it, but I think you will see a ton of teams going this route. Those big OOC games mean little to nothing to teams in the B1G or SEC. It can only hurt them. I love getting to watch them, but completely understand why schools will move away from them, especially after how the CFP committee handled the teams put into the 12 team field.

If they weren't getting their ass kicked in basically every year for the last 15 years, they wouldn't have an issue.

My biggest beef with mega conferences is the wildly unbalanced scheduling it causes.

This is how you get teams like Indiana and SMU in the playoff.

We will probably get at least 1 "wtf" team every year that limps in because the scheduling landed them on the easiest conference path possible.
That’s a big issue. OSU plays PSU, Oregon and Indiana while none of them play each other

Michigan’s win over OSU last year would have been devastating losses in the history of the rivalry prior to last season and would have been talked about for years to come, but now it’s just a footnote that was pretty well forgotten by non Michigan fans at halftime of the NCG. To me, what made CFB so great was the importance of every game. One loss could end your title hopes, and now it’s debatable if playing in the conference championship game is even worth it if you don’t need to win it to make it

Outside of the stretch with Pete Carroll, they've been irreverent going on 35 years now.

They had a nice run in the late 60s and 70s too but outside of that and the Carroll era they are nothing more than a mid level program, the consistency just is not there to call them upper tier.

Them sucking for the last decade and a half is why they are in the B1G now. Couldn't make enough money on their own so they had to go somewhere they could.

Illinois is this years Indiana. They play Ohio State but skip Oregon & Ped State. No significant OOC opponent either (Western Illinois, Duke & Western Michigan)

Fat Bert is liable to fall and roll himself into the playoffs.

SEC schedule is pretty well the same as last year just with home field reversed. Kinda funny that Texas has been in the SEC for one season and A&M for 13, yet UGA has played more conference games against Texas than they have A&M

The B1G schedule is all over the place

Oregon got a pretty favorable schedule too. They have to play @ Ped State but their next "toughest" game is Iowa.

That's an awful lot of words to say Iowa.

The Big OOC games won't stop completely because the money brought in with them is still big enough to keep teams scheduling them. You can argue that they aren't needed, but as long as financial incentive is there they will keep getting scheduled.

I wonder what the media revenue share is between USC and Notre Dame?
Or is there a revenue share for that matter?

Good question too.

Those 2 years would certainly be top 5 revenue for the week. Which leads to another point.

Why is NBC so shy about releasing the USC/ND tv ratings?

They aren't.

Who is?

What was the viewership rating for USC/ND last season? It wasn't reported.

ND is a much stronger national brand than USC

people overestimate how much people care about USC, people in California don't even care unless they are doing really well.

Being smack dab in the middle of Big 10 country has a lot to do with that.

NBC isn't shy about releasing USC/ND TV ratings. I can't find the 2011 and 2007 rating, but was able to find all the way back to 2005.

Egad! It make$ plenty of $en$e. Maybe even north of a billion to $plit.

ND and USC not playing?

It was a dumb move to go to the BiG but it was necessary since the leadership of the PAC screwed everyone.

SC can continue to play ND.. they just want guaranteed home games vs inferior opponents in OOC

I think that will be the reason many teams stop these OOC games from the B1G and SEC. Though USC has a second legit concern -- they are already flying 2000+ miles multiple times to play games in conference which is brutal for college kids and expensive for the school. Adding another OOC cross country flight is a lot.

Most of the teams in the B1G and SEC already have premier games scheduled far out in advance though. I do get the travel concerns, but them joining the B1G was a product of them sucking ass for the last 15 years, and not being able to get as much money as they thought they should.

You'll never convince me it's not because they don't want another loss on their schedule. And I'm not saying we'll win every game, but we've been beating their ass lately. Also Lincoln Riley is about as big of a pussy as they come. They tried to get out of another big OOC recently, I just can't remember which one it was.
