Plus they got the PAC name. That will remain a bigger brand at least for the time being.

Mainly older generations.

Actually if we go back pre-2010, Oregon likely gets left behind too.

Looks like a little bit more than a middle of the road G6 conference.
Yeah. A definite upgrade for Texas State, a slight upgrade for SDSU, Boise, CSU, UTT, Fresno State and Gonzaga…even though their hoops conference wasn’t bad. Downgrade for Wazzou and the Beavers but the best they could do considering being abandoned by the rest of the Pac 12.

Understandable why many think of it as MWC 2.0 when 5/8 of the football playing schools came from the MWC. With the new look of the Pac 12, most traditionalist would have to view it as either MWC +2.0 or PAC -2.0. Trading Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA, ASU, Arizona, Colorado and Utah for the new members is the reason.

However, I think it was skewed a little by brand recognition and conference depth. Over the years top MWC schools like Boise, Utah and TCU more than held their own with Pac schools. And imho they’ll be closer to the ACC and Big 12 than the other Gs.

Any word on when Gonzaga changes its name to Gonzaga State? Cause they're kinda messing with the feng shui here

Trading Washington for Texas State is definitely an upgrade.

I laugh when I see conferences that want to get the Texas eyeballs. I’m from one of the “other” schools in Texas and can speak to reality. All like us know our place…whether we like it or not.

Cold hard fact. Texas and A&M are the eyeball attracters…even when they suck. The others attract the crumbs when they are performing well like Texas Tech softball this year and recent hoops success from Houston/Texas Tech/Baylor. While those crumbs are probably large compared to what crumbs can be attracted from Idaho, they are still not huge.

Even though San Antonio is a large city ( so is El Paso), it is still UTSA. Not sure they move the viewership needle very much.

The money like SMU and Tech are spending can definitely help, they still only draw significant eyeballs when having success.

Basically this. By securing UT, A&M, and OU, the SEC has effectively captured 80% of the Texas market when it comes to college sports interest.

There will be the occasional year when one of the other schools has a great season in football and attracts some national interest or a non-football sport has a breakout story/season. Aside from that, its the big 2 instate plus OU that drives everything

OU's tradition grabs eyeballs in Texas but I don't run across that many land thieves in DFW. Do you run across that many land thieves in your area? (Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought you were here in DFW.) In the Keller/Trophy Club/Southlake/Grapevine area where I stomp around with the grandkids, I see many more Double T decals on vehicles than anything....including Texas and A&M decals. Hell, they seem like they outnumber the TCU stickers I see 20:1. Probably just a quirk for this area, but the Red Faders are everywhere. But in the stores, the clothing is mainly TCU, Texas and A&M stuff. Also many Okie Lite and even Mizzou faithful around. Mizzou surprises me.

But, Texas, OU and A&M are the only ones that can grab national eyeballs to any extent that matters.

Know a fair number of OU alums and fans in the area. And yeah im in DFW. Know a lot more Aggies than UT grads. In a strange quirk, almost all the OU grads I know are females where all the guys are Aggies or TTU.

You're right that there are absolutely tons of TTU fans and alums in the area. I guess it makes sense. Huge school, admissions much easier than UT or A&M, and cheaper tuition than OU. Mizzou in the clothing stores is surprising. Maybe some sort of weird leftover from the B12 era.
