Wonder if the Mets will ever just terminate the contract early and buy it out. Guess that money in today's terms doesn't seem like much of an annual hit.

Exactly, it's chump change today.

There's 10 years left, he will be 72 when that last payment is made.

At this point, they should just embrace it. Make it a team holiday, everybody wear Bonilla patches on their jerseys, have Bobby show up at the ballpark...give the first 10,000 fans a copy of Bobby's contract

Fun anecdote time: I was at a game at Shea back when BB was playing. He was really getting crap from the fans, was going through a bad stretch. He came up to the plate and the fans started booing. I stood up and yelled, "I still believe in you, Bobby!" and he hit a double. Told everybody within earshot to "sit down and shut up, you never believed"

After decades of embarrassment, the organization finally embraced it and now lightly celebrates it. Might've had something to do with the change in ownership though.

I have a similar story.

I was in Milwaukee for a game (over a decade ago). It was the most boring game I've ever attended and it was about to go into extra innings. Corey Hart was at the plate and I hollered "alright Corey, knock this one out so we can all go home!" Very next pitch he knocked it out. Everyone around me gave me high fives and went home happy.
