GAME CFP Semifinal-Rose Bowl: Notre Dame Vs Alabama 4pm ET ESPN

It’s terrible, 9 out 10 games are blowouts. One team (Alabama, LSU, Clemson is always superior
I agree the semis have mostly been bad...sans a few. But the reason I like the CFP better than the BCS is the two teams playing for the CFP natty at least have to win a game outside their conference to play for said natty. In the BCS they could "beauty contest" their way into the final. While they can still "beauty contest" their way into the CFP, they still have to beat another team to play for the natty.

Let's use Bama 2011 versus Bama 2017. Both had two SEC teams in the finals. Bama vs LSU in '11 and Bama vs Georgia in '17.

IMO people had a legitimate case in bitching about two SEC teams in '11. They didn't have such a case in '17 because the two SEC teams proved they were the best because they beat the ACC and Big 12 champs in the semis ON THE FIELD. JMO

Another New Year’s tradition in the books with a Notre Dame bowl loss.
And until that becomes unacceptable to the collars it will continue. Just showing up is good enough for them.

Youre thinking after game results, and I agree. But you never know that until you play the game. The selection process is the issue. And the BCS always seems to leave out a team which feels unfair. Still happens, but now the teams left out are further down, which makes the playoffs a better system in my opinion.

Just last year, we had LSU, OSU, and Clemson at 13-0. Who gets left out in the BCS system?

The year before it was Alabama, Clemson, and ND all undefeated.

The year before we had 5 teams with 1 loss.
Get rid of conference tie ins to bowl games.

Playoff expansion would help prevent blowouts a few years down the road.

Right now for elite talent, they have two goals-win a natty and make the NFL. Right now there are only a half dozen or so teams that have a chance to make the playoffs and they are getting the lions share of elite talent.

If you go from 4 to 8 teams then you expand the number of teams that can make the playoffs considerably. Yes, initially you still have the same handful of teams that are going to win, but over time the talent dilutes to 20 programs instead of 6 and you have more parity.
That is not wanted by most of the power brokers.

Ahem. If Urban Meyer wants to be your coach, and Dabo or Nick ain't available, you hire him.

There are 65 P5 programs. At most 8 benefit from the current setup. I think if there is enough emphasis (and compensation) it's doable.

Congrats to Bama. Game was never in doubt.

Thanks to the 2017 ND class for those that are gone. 43-8. 2 CFP appearances.

Yeah I agree. It was Men vs Boys in 2012. ND is plenty man enough this time they just need more athleticism at the skill positions
Didn’t someone say real athletes can’t qualify to get into Notre Dame or some shit

Oh, I'm with you. It is very doable and like you said, over time that talent would be more widely dispersed because of the potential to attend more schools that have a chance at the playoffs. Right now, the teams with a chance are identified as much on NSD as the season.

What I'm saying is the 8 that benefit currently (and a few more tradition rich ones) don't really want it to change. (They are the same ones that were against the 85 player limit change.) They don't want new upstarts to get a foot in the door. Then they'll have to deal with them for a long time like they are Clemson right now. Why let a NC State, Indiana, Texas Tech or Arizona State rob some of those top recruits by being annual playoff contenders?

I don't disagree with your assessment. It's just there are a lot more Texas Tech's than there are Alabamas and at some point they are going to want a bigger piece of the pie. Plus, Disney and Fox probably understand the same 4 teams year after year are eventually going to kill eyeballs and they are going to try and do anything to keep people watching.

Another thing is the transfer portal and the NIL issue. Some think that may level out the talent discrepency some. I'm not so sure.
