The electrical grid is being pushed to the limit with this cold system.

I hold on to my vehicles for a while(I’ve only had one piece of shit and I pretty well gave it to my brother because I was tired of fucking with it).

I finally got my truck paid off. I’m gonna ride her until she dies
I typically don't buy new either. My last car was 15 years old when I sold it.

My current car was the first new one I've bought

My truck is the only one I ever bought new.

That Jeep I bought when I was 16 got used and abused, and it took it all in stride. They need to make that kind of reliability with all the modern amenities. I’d buy. That thing will outlive me

7 degrees in Shreveport. More precipitation supposed to come tomorrow.

Shit Show

Can’t sleep. In the car to keep warm.

praying pipes don’t burst.

praying my mother in law wakes up tomorrow - not sure how cold hypothermia sneaks in. It’s probably 37 in my house right now

Man...careful with that. People be dying from exhaust fumes.

I don’t understand it. Being from Illinois and -20 we wouldn’t have even worried about it. Maybe a random street pipe burst but that’s it. And with so many people in Texas on electricity only with no natural gas too. 3 hours east of Dallas is one of the biggest LNG fields in the country. Makes no sense

heavy snow topples trees and that brings down powerlines. When they don't get an annual heavy snow, trees come down all at once when they finally do get a lot of snow.

And everyone driving on street tires. I won't even use an all season here in the winter. Gotta have snow tires on all four wheels.

my heat is gas.
Propane here.

There’s a wood heater in this house, but I’ve spent many weekends this winter busting firewood for two of my elderly great uncles who have gotten too down to do it themselves.

Fuck that shit

growing up we heated our house with a wood stove in the basement.

when my brothers and I left the house, my dad bought himself a log splitter.

I've thought about getting a generac whole home natural gas generator, but our power here is so consistent.
There’s still overhead lines here, and a lot of trees, and this is a low priority area when a storm goes through. Well water, so no power means no water. A generator is a necessity for me IMO.

Mines a gas burner Makita. It’ll run everything in the house other than the dishwasher(it’ll run the dishwasher if I don’t run the AC, but I’d rather hand wash dishes than not have AC)

I’ve got a splitter now and a pretty good setup, but I’d rather just pay the propane company to keep my tank full.

Yeah, opposite situation for me... all underground lines from me to the main power substation. Pretty much the whole area needs to be out for me to be without power. The cost/benefit won't seem worth it for how little I'm without power.
