Wednesday “National Landline Telephone Day” Thread

my grandpa passed away freshman year.

I had to get up at I think 5am to get greyhound station to get a bus home (5 am/6am for college freshman....like getting an old person to stay up until midnight). My roommate and his friends get back from a party ~2am and come into room being loud as hell

Finally "look assholes, my grandpa died, I need to catch a bus in few hours. Shut the fuck up or get the fuck out)
Wow, you took a bus in college too?

I remember taking one on my first trip to a school I'd never been to....bus dropped me off downtown and the campus was about two mile north. That was a long hike with my luggage.

Either one or two times. I had friend from High School who had a car and I'd usually get a ride home with him, I didn't go home much to be honest.

I did fly once, girl across the hall mom worked for delta, I was able to get a plane ticket for same amount as a bus ticket. I think plane spent more time taxing around runway than flying

sophomore year and on had my own car

@ill isn't around to drive content, and we don't have any client horror stories or pants-shitting tales from @kobesgame this week.
I haven't shit my pants this week, but one of the kids I coach farted in front of the rest of the group yesterday and had us all cracking up.

I did get a call yesterday from a guy who claimed he had a legal issue that needed to be resolved and then as I tried to sort through it with him, it became clear that the issue was already resolved and he just wanted to bitch to me about his ex and about lawyers. That's 22 minutes I can never get back.

Think I might try to ride the talkie bike today. My groin is still a little tendy from a couple weekends ago, but it didn't bother me when I rode a bike to the brewery last weekend.
I can't work out AM because Mr. Kobe does and someone has to be home with the kids. And after work/school/daycare is too much of a shit show to do it then. So the last week I've been going out for a run late morning right before lunch. Feels good to be working out again.

Home gym.

Have you ever used a landline?
Parents use to have one when I was a young lad in elementary and would get home from school before them and I had to call my mother to let her know I was alive.

Also, have one on my desk. Never have used it tho.

I ended up doing the bulletin board thing for my rides back home in undergrad.

Kid that lived in the same town as me gave me several rides home for the price of a 12 pack, and we've been close friends ever since.

final curling standings came out

outright champions, we knew won last week as we held the tie breaker, but no tie breaker needed

5-2

quite few teams at 4-3 and one sad team at 1-6

we started 0-2, but just like in the movies, we never gave up, got together as team and triumphed against the odds

Gift card payout is a lot lower this year than last, cheap bastards

It's interesting, a lot of older movie plots hinge on the fact that you can't communicate with some instantly as you can most of the time now.

yeah, the bus was emergency situation midweek for funeral, so waiting wasn't really option.

I feel like flight was my return trip from bus, I only recall one way

it was 23 years ago.

i had a landline in college for a bit, I never used it because I had a cellphone.

After few months of having to pay long distance bill because none of my roommates did, I cancelled long distance and people had to buy calling cards

few months later, i cancelled phone all together. 2 roommates w/o cellphones complained, I said they could get a phone on their own, but I was out

that was 1999-2001. By my super senior year (2002-2003) landlines at college houses were almost extinct and everyone had cell phones
Are calling cards even a thing anymore? I remember having those in my dorm.

90% of seinfeld episodes revolve around not having a cellphone (ok, not that high, but it's frequently an issue)

couldn't tell you, but I would assume in some form or the other they do

gotta get SOME work done nearing the end of the quarter.
The last 6 weeks have been a struggle for me to get motivated. I got back on the motivation train this week though. Been cranking out work again finally.

When the phone rang in the middle of the night the RA had to get up and answer it, then shuffle over to one of our rooms. Wasn't usually good news. That's how I lost my first roommate...his gramps died and he had to go back to the ranch in Idaho.
was hoping it was a "one missed call" situation, boring end to the story and terrible netflix show.
