Celebration Friday

it is not least bit off road capable, they just gave it rugged look
My buddy works at a 4WD specialist in LA, somewhere on Wilshire. He told me that 99% of what they do is related to Hollywood dumbasses who buy insanely expensive 4WD vehicles, never put them in 4WD and then have dried-out transfer cases.

sounds right

stupid thing is they're close to a lot of desert and other off road areas that would be fun to drive

Now THAT'S gay!

It's absurd how much that thing costs. I guess he got some sort of government incentive to buy it from work. It's total madness to me that a guy needs that $65,000 vehicle to drive 24 miles a day round-trip on the interstate. My thinking is, drive a 5-speed Tercel for commuting, take the incentive and buy something fun for the weekends.

At this point I'd rather just have an Outback than any of these insanely expensive SUVs.

For the price of that Explorer ST I could buy an Outback and a used Mini that is fun as hell to drive.

A guy I know that used to sell exotic cars locally told me a story of Lee Brown James coming in one day to look at a Lamborghini, but left because he couldn't drive stick.

Literally some of the best, most accessible offroad driving in the world but they'd be horrified to stray too far from Mulholland Drive.

Prime. If i can't get it, I'll look for a different car completely. Might go with the Mazda or Mercedes.
CX-5 would be choice for mainstream SUV after the Prime. Next in line would be Subaru Outback

I don't think it's luxury, but the upper trim is definitely premium that'll give more expensive brands run for their money but with Mazda reliability and lower maintenance costs.

I'd prefer Audi A4 or A6 all road to most SUV's, but I'm in minority on that one

I like that idea a lot. I hate so bad the stigma that Subaru fostered for the Outback but damn it's a pretty amazing vehicle. Yeah, for the price of the Explorer you could get a top-of-the-line barely-used Outback and a Mini. My parents just bought a used Mini. Barely used at all for 40% off new from Carmax and they got it shipped up from Miami or some shit.

sounds right. Manuals are going away

I've only driven manual few times in my life and would have to learn to drive one as I don't think my few trips as youth count me an as expert

Living in city doing a lot of city driving a manual isn't that appealing to me though, so just accepted my lot in life as an enthusiast poser that'll drive automatics

My A3 was the most fun to drive car I've ever owned. But my wife hated it because the suspension was too rough.

Audi's AWD system is badass.

I've had an A4 and a TT. I had Blizzacs on the TT and that thing was a fucking beast in the snow. Obviously, it wasn't good in deep snow, but man, the traction that thing had was unreal.

I have a buddy who is a VP at some healthcare startup. He signed a massive contract with a national chain and the first thing he did was buy an A8.
