I don't know what kind of rattlers there are in Kentucky, just that there are rattlers.
I guess my mama figured the important thing for me to learn was if it rattled, get the fuck away.
I'm not sure why I think this, it may not even be correct, but I think the further south one gets, the more prevalent water moccasins are.
Looks like they have moccasins, copperheads, pygmy rattlesnakes, and timber rattlers. I imagine 95% of the rattlesnakes are timbers or "canebrake" rattlesnakes as they are probably known up there. They are much more common in hilly regions. Timbers are probably the most venomous of all of those snakes but aren't too too bad compared to some others.
