Who’s the most beloved athlete in your state?

Ted Williams was a hero of two wars. I’d say he probably had great leadership, but yet, no rings.

Ortiz was a great hitter on a lot of stacked teams. Barry was the best hitter baseball has seen in the era of integration on a team that lacked star power outside of Barry

are you really suggesting that Ortiz wasn’t instrumental in his three championship teams? That he won bc those teams were “stacked”?

He was a key piece, but trade teams and Ortiz is gonna have the same amount of rings as Bonds and Bonds is gonna have the same amount as Ortiz.

im not so sure. Boston is a very difficult sports town to play in. The pressure is very different than other places. Not many athletes can handle that pressure. I’ve seen nothing that shows me Bonds could handle that pressure. I watched jim rices career suffer under thar pressure.

I don’t think pressure was gonna get to Bonds. He dealt with fans holding up asterisk signs and giant syringes and was shit on by the national media. He just kept raking and broke the record. Hell, he’d probably get a “Barry being Barry” saying like Manny Ramirez had.

And Bonds had one of the all time great World Series performances. His team lost, so nobody remembers just how great he was in that series

Definitely depends on how old you are. I would guess that Archie is?
i know Archie Miller did some great things at Dayton, but god damn, i didn't know Ohioans regarded that lil geek from NC State that highly

that’s nowhere near the pressure of playing in Boston. It’s the media. It’s relentless. Its so bad now that they have constant nonstop sports talk radio. They fill that time with lots of nonsense content. It’s been bad like that for as long as I’ve been alive. Boston sports media is relentless.

Williams was every bit as much of an asshole as Bonds. They got to an equal number of World Series and Bonds dramatically outperformed him there. Try again.
Williams didn't like the press, Bonds doesn't like anybody.

Sport nearly died after the strike. Their great foresight and leadership brought it back from the dead.

Jim Rice's career went south because his eye's were going to shit. He didn't like the press right from the start and that didn't affect him.

Too young to remember that, but I wish he wouldn't have missed most of 5 seasons to serve in the Navy/Marines. He would have been a legit threat to the 700 HR club.
He is one of the best players to have ever played the game. It’s too bad @dbldwn711 doesn't think was a leader just because he wasn’t fortunate enough to have played on a team that won the World Series.
