What’s your most controversial opinion?

I would say I liked early Adam Sandler, but the shtick grew old. I’d argue:

Funny
- Happy Gilmore
- Billy Madison
- Wedding Singer
- Waterboy

Decent
- Big Daddy
- 50 First Dates

Crap
- Pretty much everything else
Two that seem to get lost...Bulletproof is funny and Airheads is great. Maybe my favorite role of his.

I forgot all about Airheads. Never really thought of it as an “Adam Sandler” movie, but you’re right. I liked that one. Don’t think I’ve seen Bulletproof.

Adam Sandler, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and about half the posters on this forum are funnier than Jim Carrey.

Seth Meyers, Sarah Silverman and Adam Sandler are all locals that made the big time, but the only one that I find even remotely funny is Sandler and honestly that is not very often. I haven't seen too many of his movies, but of the ones I have I liked The Water Boy and Happy Gilmore a lot. The Longest Yard and Anger Management both made me chuckle, but not because of him and I really couldn't get through too much of some of the others so maybe I missed the part where he was funny :noidea:

To me, Sandler falls into the same category as Will Farrell, fine in small doses like on SNL skits, but otherwise meh.

Yeah, good comparison for sure.

When Jim Carrey embraced being a clown, he was funny. Anything beyond that wasn't comical, it was tragic.

Fire Marshall Bill
Vera de Milo
Ace Ventura
Lloyd Christmas

Those were legendary clown-comedy characters that were legitimately funny.

His 'clown' moments in other movies were always the funniest parts of those movies. Whenever he'd try to bring wit or insight to his comedy it would fall flat.

To me, it's just trendy, hipster bullshit. Too cool for fools.

Ferrell is hilarious.

Similar to Carrey the Clown, Ferrell is at his best when he's playing a childish character. Pull him out of that character and it's usually a miss.

The world needs clowns too.

I don't need Will Ferrell to be Marlon Brando.

Carrey is just retarded and takes himself to seriously.

No doubt that Jim Carrey is an epic doosh when it comes to all things political, but he did some really funny shit back in his younger days. I never really found Ferrell very funny at all, but that's why they say "to each his own"

I know. I didn't laugh once during Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Fucking bullshit.

I agree. If Carrey would've stuck to what he was good at, he'd be in the GOAT conversation of comedic actors.

I'm not shitting on either guy, just pointing out they're one-trick comedic actors. And that one trick is comedy gold.

Ferrell was a one hit wonder with Step Brothers IMO.

Talladega Nights sucked
Tropic Thunder was ok
Anchorman was decent, but overrated

Semi pro is fucking hilarious.

Tropic Thunder is Ben Stiller. He's funny too. :hide:

I like Ferrell's cameos as much as his starring roles. He was great in Eastbound & Down, Wedding Crashers and Austin Powers.

He sucked in The Office

Ya, it was never the same after what's his face left, but that show thrived on awkwardness and they wrote his character as such.
I tried to like it, but I couldn't get into. Parks and Rec was infinitely better. The Office lacked a Ron Swanson.
