You thought the "delusional USC people" had him all but hired. The only reason you joked about it was because you're too stupid to understand how things work and thought you read things that you didn't.

The only "USC people" that you've mentioned was me and you were shown to be wrong even on that.

But yeah, keep digging that hole OD.

Nobody thought thy had any chance of making that hire. I even stated multiple times that I doubt USC was even entertaining this delusion.

bro EVERYONES name gets thrown to the mix.. when jobs open up at places like SC, UT, UM, etc.. Agents get their coaches PAID. I still remember the 2014 UT hiring process.. Mora got a raise when his agent was leaking to the media how he was approached by Texas. Jimbo got another raise when they leaked that Texas reached out to them. Art Briles got a blank check from Baylor too. Harbaugh was rumored to Texas before he went home to UM.

Hell this past Winter, Kyle Shanahan was rumored as well to be a candidate. Doesn't mean that there's legit smoke, but names get thrown out there no matter what.

Exactly. The early discussions are always "brainstorming" sessions where it's like "Ok, let's hear some names, nothing is too crazy." Then people will start throwing out names and some will be dismissed immediately as "too crazy". lol

Then they'll put them on lists of guys they feel strongly that they could get, guys they maybe could get depending on how their seasons go and guys that just wouldn't be interested or that they have no interest in.

I'm sure there were crazier names than Kyle Shanahan thrown out there in the early days of UT's search before they settled on Sark.

I'm sure there are crazier names than Tomlin that have been thrown out there with USC's discussions. It's just how it works.

A guy like Tomlin would be a dream candidate. Completely buttoned up, great coach, very well respected, runs a clean, tight ship and doesn't allow distractions.
Clearly they haven't been following him in Pittsburgh very closely.. But if they think that highly I wish they threw him 15 mil a year to finally get him to leave my beloved steelers
Umm USC is down to 8 commits and Devin Brown may flip. It's had a pretty negative impact on USC's class.

Does Murphy stick if that happens?

No you didn't. You're so lost you don't even know what you said. You kept on about "USC people" being delusional and thinking they were getting Tomlin. You were proven wrong.

But do continue to embarrass yourself.

I shouldn't call you OD though. At this point, that would be an insult to OD.

I'd really hope so.. I like the kid but he is raw and did no favors by sticking to his high school instead of going to a better program. Love his golden arm.

If memory serves, it wasn't that big yet anyway. USC usually closes late. Plus, kids flip and/or de-commit all the time. Seems like I read where Oregon just lost a 5* O-lineman.

Speaking of candidates, it's highly unlikely that he gets the job, even if USC wins out. But if they did win out, I wouldn't hate the idea of giving Donte a 3 or 4 year incentive laden contract. I really like a lot of what he's trying to do. Especially with regard to holding players accountable for their mistakes on the field. Accountability was a glaring issue under Helton.

I’d try to keep him on staff if I were USC but this isn’t the time for an experiment IMO. I’d want someone who’s won as a HC before

The guy has never had a losing record. From what I see the Steelers biggest problem right now is that Big Ben is mostly washed and the Steelers haven't drafted a viable replacement.

Yeah, I hope so. I really like the guy. I can see why Ducks fans weren't too happy when he left. Hopefully, whoever gets the job, keeps him around.

But you're right, USC can't really afford to "take a flyer" on him right now. They pretty much have to hit a homerun. He's likely the "emergency hire" if for some reason they just can't get anyone at the top of their list.

the guy fumbled up a top 5 QB/OL/RB/WR for over 4 seasons with a shit defense (his supposed specialty). He drafted multiple 1st and 2nd round DB busts. For all the great sound clips, his locker room has always been shaky. His staff hirings have also been shitty once he finally lost all the remaining coaches that were here with Cowher.

So yeah he'll look cool and have awesome sound clips, so please take this clown

a true freshman 5* o lineman entered transfer portal but i dont remember a recruit de commit

A former 4/5 star kid is transferring, not decommiting. One of the flips was a 5 star Dlineman from Georgia so that’s pretty consequential.

USC could close well late, it wouldn’t be the first time. I don’t see them closing well without a full time coach though and that was my original point about getting someone in there before the early signing day

ehh it happens whenever a coaching change is going to be made. Portal is going to be crazy because there will be a lot of selling on depth charts across the country.

I agree. Getting the right coach is more important than keeping a recruiting class together. That said, you really want to have someone by the first signing day. Especially when you fired your coach as early in the season as USC did

yeah no recruiting class is that important to just jump the gun on a coach. SC needs to make sure they get the right guy. UT got Sark and while the jury is still out on him, he himself got Xavier Worthy from the Portal/Class mishap from UM. I don't want to imagine how this season would be without having him.

Yeah, having the coach in place prior to the early signing period would be ideal. But end of the day, if you're hiring an NFL coach whose team is going to the playoffs, there's a good chance you won't. As @duckboy33 said: getting the right coach is more important than a recruiting class. Even if it ended up being subpar...the right coach makes up some of it via the portal and then gets an even better class in the next recruiting cycle.
