Well, I guess Tomlin is removing his name from consideration.

He was asked about the USC job and, sounding almost insulted, basically said..."I have one of the greatest jobs in the world. Why would I want to go coach college football?". He also said "This is the only time I'm addressing this" "there isn't a paycheck big enough" and "Never say never...never".

lol
fuck me, he is intent on continuing to coast in Pittsburgh smdh

Tomlin on USC rumors "I don't have time for that speculation. That's a joke to me. I've of one of the best job in all of professional sport. Why would I have any interest in coaching college football? Never say never. But never. There's not a booster with a big enough blank check"

I found an expanded quote and yeah he ain't going to any college team any time soon.

I just re-heard the quote and yeah, I forgot the "booster with a big enough blank check" which is actually the best part of the quote. lol

Todd Graham could be in the mix. if you ask him about USC, LSU or TT its prob his dream job

I'm shocked NFL coaches aren't quitting their jobs to go coach at USC

Did someone say they were?

Apparently enough USC people thought it was possible for it to be a thing. I’m assuming the people in charge aren’t delusional enough to think that was going to happen

Really? Which USC people made it a thing?

Because all that has been discussed about it here is that on Dan Patrick yesterday, Carson Palmer said his name had been discussed.

Then a bunch of media outlets ran with it and a reporter asked him about it. He gave his response. Additionally, when the reporter asked the question...he didn't even mention USC. He asked about coaching college football.

So again, who said that any NFL coach was quitting to go coach USC and which "USC people" made it a thing?

Lol USC alumni went to the Media and floated him as a candidate. It was beyond delusional to pretend Mike Tomlin or Kingsbury were ever in play. Just USC people trying to inflate their importance

Even you came to the board all excited because Mike Tomlin was being rumored. I mean until he called it a joke and said it was never going to happen 😂

Showing off that famed Oregon reading and comprehension again I see.

That rumor wasn't ''floated'' by anyone. It was an interview where he was asked about some of the coaches that had been discussed (by my count there have been 13 names mentioned in the media so far) and he mentioned Tomlin among them. No USC people tried to inflate anything.

I didn't come on here excited about anything. In fact, I said that I didn't think they could get him, that it was a long shot, but that I was glad that they're thinking big and discussing those types of names. I even said that no one knows if Tomlin wanted out of Pittsburgh and if he did, if he would have any interest in coaching in college. One poster mentioned that if he left the Steelers, it would likely be for another NFL franchise like the Raiders. I agree that would be most likely.

I get it. You made a stupid comment that wasn't true, you got called out for it and instead of just moving on, you're doubling down to try to save face. It's what Oregon fans are known for.

But at this point you're just embarrassing yourself. Fortunately, for the entertainment of the rest of us...you're not smart enough to know it.

You thought you had some kind of gotcha or something, but just like your Ducks trying to win a NC...you failed.

So USC is discussing coaches they know they have no chance of landing? What a clusterfuck of a process that would be.

Like I said, I doubt the decision makers at usc are as delusional as the alumni throwing names around with the LA media. They are just throwing these names around to excite fans/boosters. Heck, even you fell for it. You said yourself that you’re excited guys like Tomlin are being “considered” even though it was never a possibility. Might as well talk about Saban and Belichick too

To be fair it happens with every fan base. Tennessee fans were convinced they were going to get John Gruden to the point the AD let some more realistic candidates slip through his fingers pursuing it. That is major disfunction.

I've heard Jeff Fisher's name mentioned for Auburn on multiple occasions just because at one time he had a kid on the team.

No one is immune to stupidity.

Agreed. It’s just to keep fans and boosters engaged during down periods.

USC boosters can get Dan Patrick to say that some coaches view the USC job as better than NFL jobs and they’ll eat that shit up. Still doesn’t change reality though

This just absolutely stupid. Every time a job opens, all kind of names get mentioned whether the school truly believes they can get them or not. It's called due diligence. How much time does it take to mention a name and then decide whether they're viable, not viable, or someone to take a closer look at later?

Your desperation is hilarious. But then we all knew you'd just continue to embarrass yourself.

Wrong again. I never said I was excited about anything. I only said that I'm glad they're thinking big. That's what they should do. There have already been a lot of names mentioned beyond what folks have speculated on and there will be more as things change both in college and the NFL.

USC likely has 2 or 3 lists based on the 3 criteria I mentioned. Like I said, Jeff Fisher's name even came up again (it always seems to) and he's been out of coaching for how long?

It's likely that they haven't even reached out to anyone's agent yet to gauge interest.

It's amazing how little you know about how this works.

You’re exciting they’re thinking big. That was my point. They made you happy by throwing names out there that have no chance of happening. That was my whole point and you’ve repeated it multiple times now.

I’m sure USCs decision makers have a more realistic list, I’ve said that repeatedly. I’ve only mocked the delusional names being floated by USC alumni and their fans thinking that means anything.

Im sure USCs list is Fickell, Aranda, Campbell or Franklin (if they’re willing to pay 8-10M for him). Maybe an NFL coordinator that wants a shot as a HC

I’d give CP a call but he’s likely done coaching. Throwing out names like Tomlin or Kingsbury is just stupid. I really don’t think the decision makers at usc are stupid enough to think those are options so it really doesn’t matter

bro EVERYONES name gets thrown to the mix.. when jobs open up at places like SC, UT, UM, etc.. Agents get their coaches PAID. I still remember the 2014 UT hiring process.. Mora got a raise when his agent was leaking to the media how he was approached by Texas. Jimbo got another raise when they leaked that Texas reached out to them. Art Briles got a blank check from Baylor too. Harbaugh was rumored to Texas before he went home to UM.

Hell this past Winter, Kyle Shanahan was rumored as well to be a candidate. Doesn't mean that there's legit smoke, but names get thrown out there no matter what.

Of course but we should be smart enough to know it’s nonsense. Former players should be as well. Of course every coach will use openings as leverage but we should laugh at the more ridiculous ones

The funny thing is, none of this has been going on with USC. USC is basically putting together their wish list. So folks involved in the decisions have basically been getting together and saying "Hey, what about this guy?"

Other than Carson Palmer on Monday, no one from USC has has even mentioned anyone publicly re: their search. Although I'm sure some of the names mentioned have been intentionally leaked.

USC is doing exactly what they should be doing. I'm sure that when Tomlin's name came up, it was something like "Hey he's been there 15 years, Roethlisberger is retiring soon, maybe he'll be looking to move on?" There was probably a minute or 2 of discussion before they moved on to another name.

This didn't even come from LA media, it came from an interview on Dan Patrick and was actually picked up more by the national media than LA media and dumbasses like duckboy actually thought a contract was drawn up and an offer made.

The funniest part is that USC was never even mentioned in Tomlin's presser. The reporter only asked about college football and Tomlin only mentioned college football in his answer. Obviously, everyone knew he meant USC, although prior to that another media person mentioned LSU being competition for Tomlin, but USC was still never mentioned.

You’re exciting they’re thinking big.

Wrong again. I'm not "excited" about anything. It's way too early in the process to be excited or upset about any name. Because most of the names out there will never even be seriously discussed. I'm glad they're thinking big because previous AD didn't and that has been a big part of the problem. Now, they appear to be, so it's a step in the right direction.

If they get someone I really like, then I'll get excited. But even then, I still won't be all that excited because, as Kliff Kingsbury showed, hiring someone to coach your team, doesn't mean they'll be coaching your team when the season starts. Or, for that matter, even when the first practice starts.
I’m sure USCs decision makers have a more realistic list, I’ve said that repeatedly. I’ve only mocked the delusional names being floated by USC alumni and their fans thinking that means anything.
Except, outside of Palmer saying Tomlin was mentioned, you still can't find anyone with USC getting excited or thinking Tomlin was a realistic target. All you nave is media, most of whom have never spoken to anyone from USC about it, taking something and running with it and geniuses like you showing how little you know about how these coaching searches work.

In fact, since it was mentioned oh his show, Dan Patrick has spent a good chunk of his show explaining what actually was said and how Tomlin was merely one of the names that were thrown out there.
