its dumb either way. The reason why the ACC is behind financially has nothing to do with Greensboro. This dork is just using the city as scapegoat. The ACC is reaping the consequences for prioritizing basketball for so long. Football pays the bills and the ACC has always been a bad football conference. UNC, NC State and Virginia all have the potential to be solid football programs, but they just aren't. Miami has been a failure since joining the ACC. VT has been unable to continue the momentum that Beamer started.

when the Big Ten is down, they will still pull in decent viewership numbers because that league is filled with big state schools. Nearly half of the ACC is private and if we're being honest, Georgia Tech may as well be a private school.

With the current landscape of collegiate athletics, the ACC isn't built for success.

In hindsight, the ACC made a lot of bad decisions when they chose to expand (and when they chose not to).

For ACC football to thrive, it needs some of its bigger players to play better football. Specifically Florida State but also Miami, VT, and NC

ACC had the opportunity to add both FSU and Penn State in 1991. They added FSU, but decided not to add Penn State b/c the NC schools didn't want round robin ACC basketball to be disrupted. That was a huge mistake and set the stage for today's ACC.

Miami and VT were good additions. Boston College wasn't.

BC wasn’t a good addition, neither was Syracuse. WV and Rutgers were better options if they wanted to add teams.

But yeah, missing out on Penn State was huge. They had their chance to corner the NE markets from DC to Philly to NYC. Combine that with the southern schools they already had, they would have been in good shape

I don't think Rutgers is a better addition than Syracuse, tbh. I think they're both lousy adds that don't add enough for football. Fortunately for the Big Ten, Rutgers doesn't play a role in their bottom line from a competitive standpoint. They just needed access to the NYC market.



CFB reporter for Yahoo (formerly SI, I think) thinks that Wake has the second best football facilities in the ACC. That tells you all you need to know about the league.

Rutgers brings you more TV sets and as a major public school, has more potential than Syracuse. Syracuse was short term and basketball thinking. It will be interesting to see if their basketball is anything special once Boeheim retires, it’s already been on the decline for a while

can you elaborate further on TV sets for private vs public? I have never heard that before. and I don't think Rutgers has more potential than Syracuse, unless that is an add-on to your public vs private point. I think it should be noted that Syracuse's university is much larger than Rutgers. Every retarded journalist to ever exist seemingly went to Syracuse.

Rutgers brings a much larger TV market than Syracuse. Plus, as a private school, Syracuse alumni aren’t concentrated in any one area. Plus they don’t garner a lot of interest outside of alumni. Rutgers is a lot bigger than Syracuse when you include all of the Rutgers campuses (they have 3 schools) and as a state school, their fans are much more concentrated in NJ.

This why the Big Ten took Rutgers and not Syracuse

oh, its always talked about how Syracuse also brings the NYC market. I'm not sure how true it is, but that seems to be the consensus opinion.

Rutgers is far closer to NYC than Syracuse. Rutgers has fallen behind because for decades, they didn’t take athletics seriously. That’s starting to change and you are seeing some gains in football and basketball. Football is obviously going to make more time

I wish @jonvi was still posting as he was the perfect Syracuse guy to ask about these questions.

Anyway, when the ACC expanded it also watered down its focus and tried to copy the SEC in making itself a football conference. Going all in on Clemson to make that happen. Then trying to satisfy the chirpers around the league by moving the ACC tournament around, and getting fucked by Notre Dame thinking they would join as full members in the ACC. The ACC moving the league office out of Greensboro might as well try coaxing South Carolina back in and add Cincinnati West Virginia by scheduling Duke every year with a guaranteed win.
