Hot Seat…who’s the hottest?

We had an alumnus lead us 1 game from the NC having a wildly successful run only to leave us for Michigan. if I’m being honest then yes, I do expect a coach that has success at WVU to move on to a bigger program. Hell I think when the Kentucky job opens up Neal is gone. It’s going to take someone to prove me wrong to think otherwise to your question.

I said I agree Campbell is different and he is perfect for a program like ISU ( or even WVU ) but when Tx/OU bounce and we are no longer in a Power conference, it may be tough for him to say no when a nice fit (to him) from a bigger program Comes a calling.
Rich Rod was a FOOL! He had it made at WVU, and they were fun to watch.

I know WVU has had coaches leave (Don't forget Bobby Bowden going to FSU), but I don't think it is imminent.

As for the future Big Xii, I am looking forward to it! The new additions are all solid football programs, and I think games like ISU-Oklahoma State (Fox) last week will become more of the norm instead of always placing OU and Texas in the premium slots (regarless of opponent or intrigue of the matchup) . Of the four new teams, I am most excited about BYU, which I think will give a spark everywhere they play in the Big Xii (like they did @ Baylor this year). I think the Big Xii will be like the Big East (before everybody left for the ACC) with the Champion being really good like West Virginia when they won the Fiesta and Orange Bowls. Those are my hopes anyway! There is good football played in the Big Xii NOW, it's just marketing to highlight two teams (regrdless of whether they deserve it or not) and not geared towards marketing teams based on quality like Baylor and Oklahoma State who are both super good this year. Their games along with OU's should get all of the prime slots this year. Will be curious to see how Texas @ Iowa State is slotted this week, after they both lost today!

I still don’t think people would stay at WVU but I’d be happily proven wrong.

If that playoff comes to 12 The B12 should be ok. But still the prestige and money would still be better in a Power league which is another factor in me thinking most coaches won’t stay at programs like WVU with success.

These is the FACTS. What the fuck is in Aimes, Iowa; Lincoln, Nebraska; Lubbock, Texas; Norman, Oklahoma; Stillwater, Oklahoma; Columbus, Ohio, Tuscaloosa, Alabama?
Universities have winning traditions or they don’t, that “can’t recruit to (insert place)” is straight horseshit. Consistent winning is the key. National televised games and history, offering the opportunity to go make…..cheddar, so they can say, “I woke up feeling the cheesiest, coach!”
Absolutely wins matter. But a place to recruit to like Norman, Oklahoma is a hell of a lot easier then recruiting to a place like Morgantown, WV. Winning solves everything. But it takes time and consistency when building an easy place to get talent too.

Not having All-American LB and defending Big Xii Defensive Player of the Year *Mike Rose* not play today due to injury was HUGE. Not the reason they lost, but it did effect the defensive play a bit, as he calls all of the defensive signals. Even when you were poor mouthing (in a good funny way) earlier in the game, I could tell ISU was in for a long day. I'm not as concerned with the W or L - (which could have gone either way), but ISU is either really sharp or really dull this year from game to game. You just don't know until the game starts. They literally were capable of winning all 8 games or losing all 8 games (well, maybe not @ UNLV or Kansas). Hopefully, they have a sharp week this week against Texas! West Virginia pressured ISU from jump, and good on the Mountaineers for that!

They should have held him out last week to keep him fresh

This is the thing. The Big Xii will NEVER be the B1G or the SEC! Not even worth worring about that.

However, the Big Xii is now and can be as good or better than the ACC or the Pac-12. People trying to bury the new Big Xii below those last two conferences are nuts. Last week's Oklahoma State @ Iowa State Game between two Midwestern Ag Schools had more viewers than ANY ACC game and all but 1 Pac-12 game this season (conference games only). When OU and Texas stop getting the top slots, the top schools in a given year will draw decent numbers like OSU @ ISU did on Fox last week.

The Big Xii just needs to not panic and fight for their place with the ACC and Pac-12 - which they can do and not worry about the B1G and SEC.

From a "stuff to do" standpoint Norman and Columbus aren't that hard to recruit to. One is a city with a metropolitan population of over 2 million and is large enough to have a professional sports team. The other is a suburb of a city with a metropolitan area of over a million. They aren't LA but they are urban enough that location isn't an issue.

That being said I agree with your overall premise. Pullman Washington's airport has 3 gates. Not 3 terminals-3 gates. In the 80's kids there went to Moscow ID to party because the drinking age was 18. Imagine living in a place where you go to Moscow fucking Idaho because that place is cooler. But if Washington State was a blueblood 5* kids wouldn't have a problem getting there.

Ohh I know the B12 will never be the B1G or SEC. We just can’t fall too far behind (money and prestige) or we are very screwed. Both the ACC and PAC will still make more money then us, by a lot as it sounds.

Yes the time and constituency is key. You can’t tell me Norman Oklahoma is a grand place. (Here comes Oklahoma people who live and work in Texas) Oklahoma has, Oklahoma city? Which has what major companies? Oil business? The winning is the key, as agreed upon. Winning, tradition, and history. You can’t convince me that any of those random ass college towns are some how miraculous better than others in the grand scheme of things.

I agree

Good points. I honestly know nothing about Midwest Ohio, so if I’m wrong, I’m wrong. I can see Norman being near OK city. But again, who is screaming out Ok City in any major part of life? If you are a badass recruit out of Dallas or Houston, or Florida, you go to OU because you see playoffs and a chance to go pro. You don’t give a fuck about Norman.

Because you are a man of pragmatic and Socratic viewpoints, and those are a dime a dozen these days. So fuck you, white supremacist!

I don't disagree. This makes me sick to say but I can see how an 18 year old would have a better time in Norman than Stillwater. But yeah, kids don't look at Norman like they would South Florida. Hell speaking of Florida Tallahassee is literally the armpit of the state and that place got whoever they wanted for 2 decades.

I'll shut up now

What the Big Xii has over both the Pac and the ACC is that MOST of the schools in the Big Xii are football first schools and in the Central Time Zone. The ACC is basketball first, and the Pac is Olympic Sports centric. I'm not talking about the quality of teams, as they are all about the same, but schools in the Big Xii (not named Kansas) actually try to be good in football and INVEST. Iowa State is not going away. They are nowhere near the apathetic, resource-less, facility-less place they once were. They have done a serious football facility football program upgrade. They were literally bottom of the barrel in everything when I was in school, but they have really sharp facilities now. Players actually want to go there! Bock Purdy s from Arizona. Breece Hall is from Kansas. Xavier Hutchinson is from Florida. Charlie Kolar is from Oklahoma (Norman actually). Mike Rose is from Ohio, etc. Xavier Townsend from Florida is on his way and should be a star. Just signed another running back from Georgia the other day, etc. The consistant wins and Championshps haven't arrived yet, but they are getting there. Matt Campbell has beaten every other Big Xii team home and away. Brock Purdy has led ISU to victory home and away against 8 of the other 9 and only missing a win @ OU to fill out his bingo card. Iowa State is doing this! Oregon used to suck too until they invsted. Clemson was mediocre until they invested. Just saying that we have more schools in the Big Xii who can and will invest to be better in football than the Pac-12 and the ACC who have a couple of programs who have done so. Just my opinion, but I want you to get on the Big Xii Positive Train my friend!

Absolutely B12 is football first and we’ll all be ok. But the money will be less (a lot it seems) and that’s not something to just ignore no matter how football centric our conference is compared to others.

I have full faith ISU isn’t going away. My fear is my team starts struggling in a non Power conference and in 2 decades we are a Mac Team. That’s my ultimate fear.

Will NEVER happen to the University of West Virginia! BTW, I think the money will better than you think with the new additions. I am personally rooting for them all to do well to help the TV contract in the next negotiation. Would love to end up with CBS since the SEC gave up that platform.

RichRod told WVU to stick it because they lied to him about spending money to compete at the highest level. They promised him upgrades to facilities ect. when Alabama came calling, they promised, then backed off the very next year so RichRod left for a program that DID spend money and WOULD invest and give itself a chance to win big. It didn't work out but that's why he left.
WVU brass was and imo still isn't serious about winning big (or at least as big as THEY can). They are about where they belong now in the newest G5 conference.

I think eventually the money will come but I can’t see it being more then the other Power conferences. We’ll see though. I am rooting for Cincy to make the playoffs though.

Tuesday night Dora and WVU. It will be epic. Does it give us an excuse to argue with our wives that we infact do not have drinking problems? “Well god damn, babe, it’s Tuesday night MAC Attack and we are playing Kent State!”
