VT /Fuente part ways

You deserve points for that one!

Peterson was a great hire. Moorhead and Norvell are not good hires.

Harsin came out of left field but I trust our AD Greene and I've got no complaints so far.
a big part of coaching is situation and circumstance.
the right place at the right time type of stuff.
Look at Oregon coaches over the last few years.
Kelly right place right time. good QB lots of returners at Oregon. came in from NFL at UCLA losing starter horrible defense not a lot returned.
Mario did what he could at FIU but in the end had a losing record. now at a school with money and resources he has an overall winning record multiple conference titles and such.

Washington should hire Chip.

That would make my day.

Frost ought to apply for the soon to be open Florida job and save everyone the stress

I doubt UConn would have taken a chance on Frost at this point.

His next job will be as a position coach somewhere. OC at most.

It is crazy time as so many historical Football Programs have been down for almost a decade (or longer) now and our desperate to get things turn around.

1. Texas
2. USC
3. Tennessee
4. Miami
5. FSU
6. Virginia Tech - yeah, I know they aren't that high level but they had a strong program throughout 1990s and 2000s and kind of broke through like Oregon and Wisconsin
7. Michigan - The perception isn't good but this team has a decent record. Issue is inability to beat Ohio State
8. Nebraska
9. UCLA
10. Washington

Your timeframe is a bit wonky. Texas and USC have won NY6 bowls fairly recently, and Washington went to the playoff 5 years ago.

If I was @wildturkey

Tim And Eric Reaction GIF

i would be shocked if Dave Clawson was in play for Virginia Tech

To go along with what @amszete said, he was also fiercely loyal to OC Brad Cornelsen, who is his best friend and was in his wedding. Cornelsen absolutely suuuuuuuucks as an OC. It's beyond clear he is not a P5 capable coach. Jerry Kill, who was an adviser for us last year, even recommended moving on from him but Fuente wouldn't do it.
If he would have fired corny and took the reigns of the offense himself a few years ago he'd probably still have a job. He made his bed.

OH, he's TOTES ready, you guys should make a play for him right now

VT doesn't want Shane and the current AD is the one who pushed his dad out of the door so he doesn't want VT either.

So, what went wrong at VT ??
Fuente seemed to be the perfect hire at the time, and was doing good things at Memphis.

He needed a good staff to succeed. He consistently put together a group of 5 staff and failed. Some of that was VT's fault..... Most of it was Fuente's. He also pretty much dissociated himself and the football program from the fanbase every chance he got. VT hasn't had a televised spring game since he got there for example.

If I'm VT my list consist of:

1. Fickle - He maybe getting wrapped up by someone else though
2. Matt Campbell - He needs to make a move this year if he is going to do it
3. Mark Stoops - Not sure you could get him and no idea what his buyout is but he has proven himself
4. Billy Napier - I understand TT is high on him so I wouldn't sit around if this is your guy
5. Kendal Briles - Great OC, knows the ACC from his time at FSU and the kid can recruit and upgrade existing talent

The above 5 are solid and honestly, Briles might be too low on the list because what he has done at Arkansas with Franks and Jefferson has been just short of amazing. Someone get this kid out of the league.
Big fan of Napier. I would go after him

The talk, though VT doesn't have many reliable message board insiders as some other programs out there, is the most realistic candidates are

Billy Napier
Jamey Chadwell
Charles Huff
Dave Clawson
Tony Elliott

A lot of insiders thought Elliott was the guy last year but for whatever reason (and none of them know why), our AD pussied out on firing Fuente at the last minute. There's been some smoke from national level writers indicating that Napier might have interest in the job and FWIW, Napier is coming to VA for a game vs Liberty this week so firing Fuente now clears the way for an open interview while he's in state. I'd love Napier but he's gonna have a ton of competition for him. If LSU strikes out on its bigger targets, for sure Napier would accept them in offered. And TCU can likely provide more money resource wise.

Fickle doesn't seem realistic and should have better options out there. No clue about Campbell. His name hasn't been mentioned much at all.
Idk why but I feel Tony Elliott is a solid fit for VT. Clemson fans may question his playcalling but he's been on the coaching staff since 2011 and had a front row seat in how Dabo got Clemson from fringe top 25 team to where they are today. Not sure if Elliott is #1 on your board but I think this is the type of job Elliott has been waiting for

He is but the fanbase doesn't want him so I doubt it goes too far.
he has a funky offense, but he has Wake Forest sitting @ 9-1

fans are dumb

and you also wouldn't have to worry about him not being able to put together a P5-caliber coaching staff

its a trap, Virginia Tech fans

don't fall for it!
