Let’s Revisit This LSU Coaching Search

I'd guess it doesn't hurt in recruiting when the overwhelming majority of the elite recruits are african americans to have a coach who is also african american.

So why are the best teams currently coached by white coaches?

They use voodoo?

There are only 11 black coaches out of 130 teams. James Franklin is at the highest profile school. Penn State.

But according to you they should be in the top 11 then.....being AA and all....you know....with all them elite AA players that want to play for AA coaches right?

Explain why that isn't the case then. Hmmm..........

OU will not match 100 million. They'll shake hands and wish Riley good luck. What say you @Goldbug ?

We would not only lose Riley, but very likely Caleb, and other good players. It would decimate our program. We don't really have a choice. Maybe we can offer him something like 12 years 120 million if we don't want to pay 12 million a year, but we have to whatever it takes to keep him from going to another college program. Also moving to the SEC will help us with revenue.

There are a select few schools where it'd be an advantage. It is the schools with blank checks for their football programs, who will compete for titles and play on the national level, who have all the bells and whistles in the program. The top of the line facilities, big time deals with nike, adidas, under armor or whoever. It is schools like LSU, Bama, Georgia, OSU, Oklahoma, Michigan, the blue blood programs.

I will put it like this. Michigan basketball had signed one top 10 recruit nationally in the past 20 years. We hire Juwan Howard and his first full recruiting class, he signed not one, but two of the top 10 recruits nationally. He finished with a top 2 or top 3 recruiting class. You don't think it helped walking into the living room of an african american recruit, when you lived their life?

Now just being african american doesn't guarantee anything -- you have to be a good coach too. MSU seems to think Tucker is worth the money.

Isn't $10million+/year Saban level money? Why are schools willing to pay Saban like money to guys BEFORE they have achieved Saban like results?
DC, the inbred retardedness of college football is ever on the increase. If you remember, we had a short convo on this back 2010 or 2011 on FN. It looks like the market continues to bare it. If the fans are willing to shell out more money, this will get worse.

Don't know what the other LSU fans think, but Riley can go fuck a duck, the same time Jimbo is fucking sheep. I'd almost be willing to try a successful Texas high school coach than these two.

I can top that -- The rumor here is MSU is offering Mel Tucker a 10 year 95 million dollar contract. If I were Tucker -- I accept that offer before this weekend's game against OSU and they pass for 700 yards.
8 yr 96 milllion > 10yr 95 million

LSU made Saban a top 5 paid head coach for having one year where he finished 3rd in the conference.

Well I guess it does pay to "bet on the come" then.

But it sure seems like more schools are getting burned by such than hitting a home run.

$100 Million. LMAO. Lincoln Riley might leave everything he enjoys at Oklahoma and go to LSU? You mean the same LSU that just ran their coach off less than 2 years after he won a National Championship? Reminds me of the guy looking for a cruise. He saw a deal for a six day Caribbean cruise for only $299. Well, he and his wife hopped right on that deal. Imagine their surprise when they found themselves taken below and chained to an oar.

Castiglione would smile, shake his hand, wish him the best and then go do what he's always known might have to be done sooner or later. Joe would sleep like a baby that night.

LSU is a football factory and can offer that type of money because they will get the recruits to compete at the national level and win titles. MSU is not and will never be in that category. So while the 8 for 96 is worth more per year. The fact MSU is offering to make their coach the 2nd highest paid coach behind Saban is a much bigger deal.

Just don't hire anyone from the AAC to be their HC and LSU should be good. :thumb:

LSU has the talent in state recruiting, where all they need is a good coach. Hell, they don't even need that -- Orgeron and Miles won titles at LSU. That's the type of talent they bring in.

MSU could have Nick Saban as their head coach and he wouldn't bring in the recruiting classes that LSU can. There are only certain schools that even have a chance to bring in the recruiting classes LSU has the chance to.

When have I ever said Michigan State was anything but a third rate program. If Riley gets an 8yr 96 million deal, he becomes the second highest paid coach. I was explaining why MSU is throwing dumb cash but Michigan State isn’t paying for most of it.

Neither is LSU.

Woodward, the LSU AD, had the money lined up from boosters for both the Orgeron buyout and what he wanted to offer the next coach lined up before this season started.

Edit to add: our state and university are run by a bunch of retards, but the Tiger Athletic Foundation has deep, deep pockets.

I understand that -- Ishbia will most likely foot the bill. I don't blame Tucker one bit, but it will be impossible for him to live up to the contract. Expectations come with getting that kind of money and it will be unfair expectations, as MSU will not be able to recruit anything like the other coaches getting that type of money.

I give MSU props for locking him up, but that type of money is crazy.
