It’s not that hard to be successful in the PAC although to be fair it could be harder with the new coaching hires. I don’t know if Lanning knows his X’s and O’s or had his position because of recruiting but if it’s because of recruiting then it can work out. You can hire quality coordinators and lets be honest a recruiter is really what Cristabol was. The cupboard isn’t bare and if he put together a top 25 class that’s probably enough this year then fill in holes with the portal.
I‘m curious if Chip said no or the boosters really didn’t want him. I’m not sold that Chip is out in a year as how is UCLA going to do much better.
Dude,
you could recruit to Kirby Smart's Georgia.
Lanning didn't get there until 2018 and was LB coach under Mel Tucker that first year. Mel left for Colorado placing Lanning into the DC position.
Therefore, the Georgia 2018 signing class and earlier rankings had absolutely nothing to do with Lanning.
2018 (#1), 2017 (#3), 2016 (#6), 2015 (#6), 2014 (#8),
Lanning's been recruiting to Kirby Smart's Georgia. Now he will have to recruit to Lanning's Oregon.
There are some other things I'm noticing in my due diligence on the Lanning/Georgia thing that leaves question. i.e. Why Muschamp was brought in in 2021 to hold his hand? It was admitted by Kirby that Muschamp was brought in as an analyst to "
coach the coaches".
In 2020 (Lanning's 2nd season) Georgia regressed to....
12th in Total Defense
16th in Scoring Defense
124th in Red Zone Defense
88th in Passing Yards Allowed
They had the horses via recruiting (prior to Lanning), they just weren't being lined up right in 2020. Enter Muschamp in 2021.
There are more signs of this guy simply being a product of where he was and who he was surrounded by, than him being the next great head coach. As a coordinator taking the next step, the odds of success are way way against him to begin with. Let alone him only being a coordinator for 3 years where everything fell into his lap.
