It's a little depressing...

It's a bit ridiculous. The teams playing for the natty are always either gonna be from the south or Ohio State. None of the fans of those teams should have to go to some AIDS infested San Francisco suburb to watch their team play another team from the same region of the country.
some of us like to travel

(and i've been to houston/dallas/atlanta/new orleans a million times already)

It’s not practical for the majority of us

Do people in Tuscaloosa or Athens even have 9° weather attire (coats, hats, gloves)?
Sure they can layer up, but that's no fun bar hopping, going to restaurants, etc.

My county’s only snow plow is just a hydraulic attachment that mounts on the front of a tandem dump truck, and when I worked for the road department briefly, the HNIC wouldn’t let us use it because it might rip out the center line reflectors. We had to use motor graders, which ripped out the reflectors along with chunks of asphalt

This whole season was a bit depressing as it was. So many powerhouse teams playing a lot of meh football. Didn't really feel like we had as many great games week to week as usual.

Not sure if it was related to the shortened season last year and some level of rust? Maybe the portal is taking a toll overall. Who knows.

Just hope next year gives us more epic battles week to week.
I’ve never been less interested myself, and there’s so many factors. The game is changing in general with the portal and all that, feels like a whole new reboot of college football after the weird covid year. I’m not gonna complain about it, it had to go the way it’s going at some point. There’s just no arguing it’s different. 2 years of covid times in general, life is just different, and I’m sure that plays a role too. Our team has never been less exciting, the whole culture and vibe of the program feels like it was just destroyed in one year, so not having a team to care about doesn’t help. Call me a band wagon fan or whatever, but I think you know how this is just different. I sat through the willingham years and 0-12 and my support never budged. This year I had to try to force myself to care, and just didn’t really care to put out that effort. Then on top of that, we have hockey now, and that’s fun even if your team sucks. I’m gonna go with the thing I don’t have to put out extra effort to enjoy.

I’ll always love UW and Husky football, but I don’t see myself ever planning my week around it again. A new chapter I guess.

College football won't get back to 'normal' until Saban retires.
There could be a sense of normality once he hits 75 if he continues to coach. There has typically been a big drop-off in coaching quality at that age.

Sure we had much of the same contenders year to year in the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's, but none of those contenders won them with the frequency that Saban does. Hence him being the GOAT.

Chicago would be a pretty cool place for the NCG. I had a lot of friends that did the full weekend experience when UGA was playing @ Notre Dame, the Falcons were playing @ the Bears and they had UGA night at Wrigley Field with Vince Dooley throwing out the first pitch. They all had good things to say about the entire experience.
I was in Chicago that weekend (randomly, no reason for it) and it was so weird seeing so much RED everywhere! Chicago is one of my favorite cities, so I always have a good time, but there was a definite buzz that weekend. Ended up going to the Bears/Falcons game and it was a fantastic environment.

That’s another factor, the lack of parity. We have an SEC title game rematch title game this year, big shocker…

I mean, it’s impressive and awesome and everything, but not great for college football in general.

I wish I could have made it. It’ll be years before UGA plays at Notre Dame again if it happens at all. Probably was a once in a lifetime deal

There is a lot of parity among the top teams below Bama.

Bama beat Georgia 41-24 in the SEC CCG. A 3 score margin.

It's Bama (Saban) and everybody else.

Georgia might make a better game of it in the NCG only because rematches tend to favor the team that lost the first time. Georgia has the benefit of looking at film, figuring out how they got beat so bad the first time, and making adjustments to it.
Bama knows what worked the first time and won't likely change much scheme. Why would they?

Once Saban retires I see Georgia remaining top tier under Kirby, but they won't be winning natties with the frequency Saban has.

I've been up and down over the years in both intensity/interest in just UW football, and college football outside of UW. Some of that has been life/free time for sure.
Can't say my enthusiasm is high for either right now. Covid and the weird changes to life and my work are part of it. Working in a hospital through all of this has taken some toll.
I will for sure watch both UW and high interest games next year. I'll still need that distraction from whatever is left of this nightmare run of bullshit at work if nothing else.
NIL, the transfer portal, and just overall boring/disappointing games is for sure dulling my overall interest though and my expectations for next year for the sport in general is not very high.
It's a garbage product that seems to keep getting worse.

Anyone who said the games were boring didn’t watch any Fun Belt action

Never thought of it until you stated this. But it sure seems accurate.

They "voted" National Champions back in those eras you referenced. That means some of those teams "stumbled" along the way and thus lost the AP vote. Didn't get a BCS/CFP another shot. Saban's won nattys that he wouldn't have if they were still just "voting". For sure 2011 and probably 2015 and 2017 they wouldn't have won via the AP vote. On the flip side, 3 out of 4 times in the CFP they were the #1 seed but didn't win the playoffs. 2020 is the only year where the AP vote and CFP results would have probably matched up.

2014 - #1 (Lost in semi but would have been NC via the AP vote)
2015 - #2 (Won it all but would not have been NC via the AP vote)
2016 - #1 (Lost in final but would have been NC via the AP vote)
2017 - #4 (Won it all but would not have won the AP vote)
2018 - #1 (Lost in final but would have been NC via the AP vote)
2019 - Missed playoffs
2020 - #1 (Won it all and would have won the AP vote)

We are going to get raped by fucking Kansas State!
