Off-season transactions thread

What a weird trade, though I imagine the prospects were the main driver in this one. As much as I love JBJ I'm not sure I like forcing Kike away from center. I'm not sure there's really a defensive upgrade and you're moving Kike off his best position, not to mention there's an offensive downgrade. But then again, they probably had to take on JBJ to get Hamilton and Binales. Hamilton looks more like a utility guy but Binelas has some intriguing power potential. But if JBJ is going to be used as a 4th OF I'm fine with that. I just wonder where Duran would fit into the OF configuration (if at all)?

Renfroe was a solid player especially for the $3M they had signed him for, but he was kind of frustrating to watch. Great arm but he seemed to struggle with balls in the gap and weird bounces. Good power hitter but it came with a pedestrian .315 OBP (only his second OBP above .300 in his career).

I can't even remember what the answer is now but it used to be Pawtucket

This seems to be a plus trade for Milwaukee at the major league level. Renfro will be an everyday player to try to reace Garcia. JBJ was good D depth but didn't bring much else. The Brewers are used to having butchers in left field. The contract is team friendly, also.

That would probably be a better option for the Braves, though Freeman feels like the kind of player that should be with one team for his entire career. I think Olson is poised for a huge 2022 season if he keeps his improved strikeout rate (that he did while maintaining his walks and home runs).

Freeman will probably retire either this season or next. He is nearing the end of a great career.

I don't see him retiring. He's only 32 and he's coming off a very good year, it's not like he's in decline. I'd take him over the majority of starting first basemen and even then, he'd be a great DH down the road.

Do you really believe freeman will play beyond the 2022 season? If he is why would the Braves be inquiring about Olson?
He’s 32 and the only reason he hasn’t signed yet is because he wants a 6 year deal. Does someone trying for a 6 year contract sound like they’re about ready to retire?

The Braves can’t win a bidding war against the Dodgers or Yankees, Olson would be the best fall back option out there

Freeman showed signs of decline last season before coming on strong in the post season playoffs. Olson is only 27 and one of the best power hitters in baseball.

No, he had a great season. No signs of decline

“The only left handed hitter to hit a homer off of Josh Hader is about done”
