So Michigan has the same academic standards as nearly every other school uses for the recruits and the narrative that they don’t lower their standards is complete bullshit, agreed.
You can believe that, but it is the truth. We lost Xavier Worthy this year because of it. I believe Worthy worded his statement -- "Due to circumstances beyond my control, things did not go as planned and he will be reopening his recruitment".
Yet he had no issue at all getting into Texas. If a recruit only meets the minimum academic standard set by the NCAA, they have to be approved by the admission office to be granted admission. Go look at the HS GPA's of every 5 star kid UM has signed. Peppers, Daxton Hill, Rashan Gary, Donovan Peoples Jones, etc. -- they are all kids who all had 3.5 and up GPA's in high school. Those are the only 5 star recruits UM is going to get.
It is a big reason Dick Rod didn't like UM. They won't sign the academic waivers for recruits that are common place in the South for those who barely meet the minimum or just below it. Dick Rod had a commitment from Dorsey -- the 5 star Safety from the florida or Louisiana, but the school refused to admit him.
No one is saying UM is only signing honor roll students, but if you think UM has the same academic standards as even say, MSU, you are kidding yourself. We couldn't sign any of the transfer portal guys you have brought in, because the school wouldn't allow, unless they are grad transfers or the school approves the course credits the player has taken.
You think UM sits quiet in the transfer portal 'just because'? We signed what -- one guy this year. We are losing 10 starters. We have holes all over on our defense and we've signed one guy. It isn't as if UM is like OSU or Bama or Georgia, where they have 5 star recruits waiting in the wings for a chance to play. UM would love to sign a player like Speed, Windom, Brule, Bogle, etc. like MSU has done. The school won't allow it. We can essentially only sign guys who are grad transfers with a clean academic slate.
