Mike McDonald Returning to Ravens.

The players don't have to meet the standard of regular student requirements, but UM won't allow players in even if they meet the minimum NCAA requirement for athletes and they definitely won't sign waivers for a player to be an exception like 99% of CFB programs will do.

Michigan also won't the overwhelming majority of transfers in, as they won't accept the credits toward their degree from the majority of schools. It is why you rarely ever seen UM accept a transfer, unless they are a grad transfer, which gives them a clean slate.

UM can't do what MSU has done and raid the transfer portal, it is part of the reason I think Harbaugh leaves UM, because they put the program at such a disadvantage. Tucker is brilliant how he has worked the transfer portal -- UM was able to bring in one guy this year, because he was.....................already graduated.
So Michigan has the same academic standards as nearly every other school uses for the recruits and the narrative that they don’t lower their standards is complete bullshit, agreed.

MacDonald seems to be a rising star. I heard a lot of praise about this guy during the past season

He was morally repulsed by all the cheating that went on and got the school a postseason ban. None of which was used to get him to go to Ole Miss in the first place

I think you forgot to use the green font there

You can believe that, but it is the truth. We lost Xavier Worthy this year because of it. I believe Worthy worded his statement -- "Due to circumstances beyond my control, things did not go as planned and he will be reopening his recruitment".

Yet he had no issue at all getting into Texas. If a recruit only meets the minimum academic standard set by the NCAA, they have to be approved by the admission office to be granted admission. Go look at the HS GPA's of every 5 star kid UM has signed. Peppers, Daxton Hill, Rashan Gary, Donovan Peoples Jones, etc. -- they are all kids who all had 3.5 and up GPA's in high school. Those are the only 5 star recruits UM is going to get.

It is a big reason Dick Rod didn't like UM. They won't sign the academic waivers for recruits that are common place in the South for those who barely meet the minimum or just below it. Dick Rod had a commitment from Dorsey -- the 5 star Safety from the florida or Louisiana, but the school refused to admit him.

No one is saying UM is only signing honor roll students, but if you think UM has the same academic standards as even say, MSU, you are kidding yourself. We couldn't sign any of the transfer portal guys you have brought in, because the school wouldn't allow, unless they are grad transfers or the school approves the course credits the player has taken.

You think UM sits quiet in the transfer portal 'just because'? We signed what -- one guy this year. We are losing 10 starters. We have holes all over on our defense and we've signed one guy. It isn't as if UM is like OSU or Bama or Georgia, where they have 5 star recruits waiting in the wings for a chance to play. UM would love to sign a player like Speed, Windom, Brule, Bogle, etc. like MSU has done. The school won't allow it. We can essentially only sign guys who are grad transfers with a clean academic slate.

They lost Worthy because they wouldn't let him in early after telling him he could enroll early, was what I heard. Thats not a good way to hold on to players, breaking promises right away.

Not at all. We have a ton of guys every year who enroll early. Had nothing to do with that. Wouldn't make any sense to tell a kid he can't enroll early, when it only benefits the player and the team.

Unless they didn’t really want him on the team

He was one of our highest ranked recruits at a position of need. That definitely wasn't the case with him, as you can see how he showed out on the field as a true freshman at Texas. The guy had 1,000 yards and 12 tds as a true freshman.

A player like him is exactly what UM was missing this past year -- a guy who could take the top of the defense.

Official.

You guys should probably just join the Ivy League. Probably have to tone down the poor me over in the Ivy League forum though, but at least you might be competitive, lots of teams over there whose last legit title was with leather helmets too.

Michigan left the Big Ten once, when it attempted to be the Ivy League.

It’s a founding member, not a constant one.

Yeah. But those kids are like kids who fail out of high school. I’m talking meets NCAA minimum requirements to play but not school requirements.

Sounds like a personal problem...rather than bitching about other people that are following the rules, maybe if y'all don't like it, change it. I don't know what else to tell you, hard to gather sympathy for problems you create for yourself.

Oh, it's certainly a problem Michigan has created. but the people in charge aren't changing it.
