Big Ten Basketball

Iowa gonna continue to be an interesting case. Even after another L last night. The NET is still 24.

Assuming they lose at OSU that would put them 4-7 in conference.

But the schedule is about as creampuff as the BIG10 could ever get over the stretch of like 9 games.
 
You know, I understand TV contracts and the logistics of traveling teams, but there is no way the Wisconsin @ Illinois game should be canceled or postponed already. There will not be decent travel weather tomorrow.
 
This season sucks.

Team keeps getting games cancelled/PPD because of COVID and now Iowa game has been PPD because Iowa couldnt figure out how to travel in February. Hard to get into any kind of groove when you keep losing games/having games pushed back

The amount of games getting cancelled and/or moved because of fucking snow is actually pissing me off.

Its basketball played inside. Who cares if fans cant fully show up. And if a team cant figure out travel, also on them.

Too bad guy, the charter plane they were scheduled to use to fly to columbus was stuck in Nebraska with mechanical issues. Not a ton of local options for a CBB team to use for a back-up in Iowa City.
 
Watching Iowa is irritating. This team is 100% capablr of being a really really good defensive team

They just lack effort on that end too often

It's Fran-ball. They don't play D, rebound or even hustle. Been that way since he got here.

Players don't just decide if they are going to play defense. They play within the coaching philosophy. Fran doesn't coach defense.
 
Wisconsin keeps on winning despite the predictions they'd finish in 10th place in their conference.

Oh sure they do. Defense is effort, hustle and athleticism. Its really the inly aspect of the game 100% in the players control

You can run great offense and still not score if you miss shots. Defense isnt that way, if you play hard on D and arent physically overmatched youll get stops

This team has the athletes to play great D and theyve done so large parts of the year just not all game every game

You're right that a team can be horribly coached defensively. See Wojo, Steve.

But rmilia is definitely right that a lot of defense does come down to effort and intensity as well as physical limitation of certain players. And the effort and intensity is something that can really offset those limitations.

Yes, I understand how Defense works. It isn’t included in Fran’s coaching philosophy.

Agreed. I’ve been saying for a decade that Fran’s teams lack the hustle and intensity to keep them in games where they don’t have the same talent level of the opponent. Lack of talent can be compensated for immensely with conditioning and hustle.

I also suspect Iowa’s conditioning prep lacks due to the fact we miss so many FTs down the stretch. Might just be a sign of the times today that players don’t want to put in the hard work to make the basics easy.
