tOfficial Angel Hernandez Thread

Doesn't make it a strike, it makes it a mistake. A strike is clearly defined.
And the ump decides if it met the definition. Not the batter, not the pitcher. Not the manager. Not members of the press. Etc etc etc

Wasn’t it also Angel Hernandez said the game tying home run hit by the A’s player was a double, and then said the call stood even though replay clearly showed the ball hitting off the hand rain about the yellow line?

Ok. Doesn't change the fact that just because the ump incorrectly calls it a strike...not a strike. Kyle knew the strike zone and was correct, Angel was wrong.

Kyle was right and Angel was wrong...

And the pitch was a strike and Kyle racked up another K

Oh, hell yeah.
The most angry I have ever seen a crowd. I would have been throwing stuff too, but I had to cover my head to keep from getting hit by stuff coming from the upper levels. What a waste of damn good seats

On my team alone, 1 to the bigs and 4 more drafted out of high school. One of my teammates became GM of the Twins.
granted, there wasn't as much competition when it was whites only.

Just a tangent. Has anybody ever seen stats broken down into # of strikeouts swinging vs taken?

Oh, you...

Actually, the conference I played in was the premiere baseball conference in Wisconsin at the time

Turned out a lot of pro players over a 6-8 year period.

Swinging strikeouts have to be more common. Hitters protecting the plate with two strikes and the nasty breaking pitches. But I have no hard data to back that up

There are bad calls all the time in baseball. Until they get an automated plate umpire this will continue to be an issue.
There will be bad calls with robo umps too... ...someone bumps a sensor & messes up the whole system's calibration... ...a bug interferes with the optics during a pitch... ...the auto-calibration of the strike zone based on the player's physique fails and the robo ump gives Kolten Wong the same strike zone as Rowdy Tellez... ...and a million other possible faults in robo-umping...

Then it is a good thing, AMIRITE?
Skewed view, I guess. If he didn't suck at his job then it wouldn't cost players now and it wouldn't cost him work in the future.
