hence why we stepped our game up. Being top 5 isn't enough, need to be #1.I mean you were high enough to lose 4 games a year, but sure.

One one hand you state that schools like Bama and UGA were already cheating and paying players, and now you say they won't be able to compete in the new NIL environment? Which is it?He doesn't like change. He obviously had a recruiting system in place and NIL screwed it all up. He's probably thinking he is too old to start over and build a system for how to entice the best players to want to go to his school.
As a Vandy grad, I can't wait. We are the only SEC team to own your ass!well, better start warming up
We are coming, #HookEm
Serious with the first paragraph? Bama and UGA and everyone else already had systems in place. "cheating" if you want to call it that. That's my exact point, that is now useless because you can do the same out in the open. Pisses off an old fart like Saban. One one hand you state that schools like Bama and UGA were already cheating and paying players, and now you say they won't be able to compete in the new NIL environment? Also, both UGA and Bama had recruiting classes that were equal to yours when you look at the margin for error, and we didn't have to pay $30 million to get them. Again, I am not at all worried about UGA ... we will get ours and be competitive. And we will spend what money needs to be spent if that is what it ends up being.
6 months ago it would have meant cheating. In today's NIL world, something he had been talking about for 5 minutes when he said what he said, it was clear he meant that buying players in the context of unlimited NIL was unsustainable. Look, I hate defending the midget, but what he said wasn't at all controversial in context. ATM, using NIL right or wrong, did buy that class. Everyone knows that. And if we really want CFB where ATM is going to drop 30 million every year, that's going to change the sport. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe it isn't. But you will in fact be buying players if you can drop 30 million a year.
ATM will be fine as an academic institution doing what they are doing. I just think as an alumnus it wouldn't be as fun knowing we can only win by buying it.
I care because I like CFB and there isn't a situation you can describe where teams can spend unlimited money on players where it makes CFB better. Paying players is better. Transfer portal can make it better. Uncontrolled of both won't, IMO.Serious with the first paragraph? Bama and UGA and everyone else already had systems in place. Why do you care what my school spends, even if it is $30m? Gonna cry about "pride" some more?
We'll see on your second point. Culture plays a huge part in winning NCs. When Clemson won it in 2018 they had it. We had it last year, Bama didn't (they would tell you it was a tough year culture wise). Let's see what type of culture you develop when you have a team of mercenaries. Maybe I am wrong and a ton of talent means more. Not sure we will really see that ... they are going to put some guardrails on this ... there isn't a sport out there that has unlimited payment to players and there is a reason for that.I agree for the most part. Like I said, in full context, the quote doesn't come off near as bad as the "sound bites" make it seem.
But NIL is new enough that saying "they bought their recruiting class" and "we didn't buy a single player" still lands as a cheating accusation. I think that was completely intentional on Saban's part. He's not that stupid or naive.
I don't think naming Jimbo and Deion was intentional though.
See, no offense, but imo, this is nonsense. Like it or not, NIL is a thing now and if a school isn't "buying it", they aren't going to be "winning it" either.
If you were serious then you have no idea what I said.I care because I like CFB and there isn't a situation you can describe where teams can spend unlimited money on players where it makes CFB better. Paying players is better. Transfer portal can make it better. Uncontrolled of both won't, IMO.
I was serious about the first paragraph.
Glad that all of your players stayed and graduated before going to the NFL. Congrats. We'll see on your second point. Culture plays a huge part in winning NCs. When Clemson won it in 2018 they had it. And aside from the amount of money, to be good at it and not get caught you had to have systems in place. People who could do things quietly and at a distance from the school and staff. Those don't just happen overnight. What did happen almost overnight is they all were rendered moot by NIL. Years of work cultivating a process and then it gets wiped out? That's why Saban is most upset. Why couldn't it be both?
Like it or not, A&M and Jexas can dump more money into NIL than any other program, including USC. When the payments had to be kept quiet, there were natural restrictions because teams had to be careful to keep the payments to smaller, more manageable/easier to hide amounts. Plus, if you had recently had NCAA issues (like USC) you reaaaaallllyyyy had to be extra careful.
Now, with NIL, schools with more money available to them like A&M, Jexas, USC, etc. can actually use, for lack of a better term, their programs "full purchasing power".

Yep, Ohio State and Bama are the local NFL teams. Ironic how the success of a program ruins going to games for alumni. The Tebow years were not great for game attendance...a lot of uneducated trash ruined the experience. (like Pam Tebow)Most Bammers are miserable they just don't realize it.
They can win a national championship and not be happy because they weren't undefeated.
When they didn't win last year there were tons of them running around saying Saban had lost his touch.
They only play like two competitive games during the regular season now and sometimes that includes the playoffs. Who wants to watch all those blowouts? I quit watching their games years ago and only flip if I see the game is close because they aren't good games.
15% of the Bammer nation are alumni and have the right attitude but 85% of them never took a class and most haven't stepped foot in the stadium. Guess which one's are the loudest and most annoying? I've told people for years show me an obnoxious Auburn fan and then look to see if they had a Bammer Daddy or Grandfather and that percentage is super high. They learn this shit young.
I mean the payments still should be silent if you are violating the rules. Any NIL that induces a player to go to a school is illegal per state law and NCAA rules. Why couldn't it be both?

So what it sounds like is he likes to complain and get attention thrown onto anything new that he doesn't understand in order to buy himself time to catch up?Saban was complaining/crying about Spread offenses and that would end him…..he now runs that offense better than anyone.
Saban was crying/complaining about the CFP taking away from Bowl games because he was scared and it would end his run……..Alabama has won more CFP championships than anyone.
Saban was crying/complaining about the transfer portal because he wouldn’t be able to hoard players and it will end him……Saban gets a 1st round reciever and his leader tackler last year from it and adds 3 of the top 8 transfers this year.
Now he is crying/complaining about NIL…… if people think Saban isn’t gonna adjust to this and still win titles they are fooling themselves
No he warning everyone. When he asked About Spread offenses “Is this what we want football to be?” People said he was crying what he was really doing was warning everyone that if that’s what they want then he will adjust and he will do it better than youSo what it sounds like is he likes to complain and get attention thrown onto anything new that he doesn't understand in order to buy himself time to catch up?
Maybe that's your view. My view is he is crying about to put everyone on their heels so he can catch up. this feels exactly like the satellite camp crap all over again. No he warning everyone.
