GAME #1 Georgia @ Tennessee - 2:30 CST on CBS

They are getting more than normal and probably a decent amount but you are absolutely right that none of the Big XII teams now (or in the future) have the staying power when compared to any of the other Power 5 leagues.

The revised Big12 resembles the Big East from 2005-its collapse.

I will say this though, the new Big12 is still MUST WATCH TV for Basketball. Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Iowa State all have stout programs. Adding BYU, Cincinnati, and Houston isn't hurting that reputation either.

Kirby notSmart playin starters at this point?

As shitty as Tennessee has been over the past decade, we always seem to injure a few players from Alabama, Florida, and Georgia that helps derailed them.

Playing him probably cost Tennessee the game against Pittsburgh :(.
No question but... JH was feelin the players out at that point so... is what it is, he got it figured out. Dang shame tho.

When you hire a new coach, the first 4-5 games are typically rough. I don't think Tennessee figured itself out until the Mizzou game.

Be trolling much?

Let's be honest, programs like Texas, USC, Tennessee, Michigan, Nebraska, FSU, etc. are one Nick Saban away from winning National Titles regularly. All they need is quality coaching to turn things around.

It also doesn't happen in one season. Nick Saban was 7-6 in his first year.
Texas, I agree. USC, I agree. FSU, I agree. Florida, I agree. Tennessee, Michigan and Nebraska will never win national titles regularly. Nebraska is simple. They have no in state talent and no talent in surrounding states. Michigan may make the CFP once in a blue moon, but they too, have little in state talent and the talent that is there, they have MSU to compete with to try and sign them. Tennessee has comparable in state talent to Michigan and they are in the WRONG conference to want to be a national title contender and it will only get worse when Texas and OU come to the SEC.

It is a pipe dream for these fans who think they are a coach away from being Alabama. Saban has signed like 30 5 star recruits from the state of Alabama alone since he has been head coach there. You could probably add up the 5 star recruits all time for Tennessee, Michigan and Nebraska combined and you wouldn't hit 30.

CFB is all about location. It is why Saban won nothing at MSU, not even a division title. Location is how you bring in the recruits. Tennessee is located in a much better spot than Michigan or Nebraska, but they also are fighting with a boat load of elite schools to not only try and pull elite kids from the south, but keep their own elite recruits to stay in state.

But if it makes you feel better to think you are just a football coach away -- keep believing it. Unfortunately for Tennessee -- they are not a destination school, like a LSU, Bama, Georgia, USC, etc. etc.

UT has won a NC since Georgia. Georgia got a better coach and is now in contention but still hasn't won a NC OR become any more of a destination school than UT is.
UT's leadership from the AD up has been a clown show for 10-15 years, THAT has been the problem but it is looking like they have all gotten on the same page at least since the JH/White hires but we'll see. Bama is on a once in a generation run NOBODY is gonna do what they are doing in the rest of any of our lifetimes but a good coaching hire or two or three in LSU's or Auburn or Florida's case can absolutely get you a NC or two.

If Tennessee had the type of in state talent that Georgia has, then yes, a coach could change it all. You don't though. No school has a bigger recruiting advantage than Georgia. They only have GT to compete with for in state talent, so they basically have the pick of the litter. Only states with more talent is Florida and Texas -- those states have 5+ D1 programs to fight for the recruits.

Lane Kiffin's situation a while back should tell you all you need to know about Tennessee's hierarchy in CFB. He jumped at the chance to leave to go to USC. It isn't meant as disrespect to UT fans or to troll, but Tennessee isn't one of the destination schools -- they are on the tier below that. They are a program who could be a top 25 team in CFB, but will never have the talent to match up with elite schools.

Wut? UGA not any more of a destination school than UTJr? You haven’t been keeping up with current events.

LSU and Florida, like UGA have built in recruiting advantages that UTJr doesn’t have. Auburn really has the one NC due to Scam and that’s it. But, I agree your admin has been a joke. Good news for you is that Gruden is available and will be when you are looking for your next coach.

Guys, the only injury that was real was Nolan Smith … bruised elbow. All the others were just well orchestrated delays. I don’t like it any more than you do, but until the rules are changed, it is what it is.

Allowed 17 points to Tennessee, that's gross.

Kirby still started Stetson Bennett. That's grosser.

The way the population is growing it will have the talent and then some. The right hire and then the leadership getting on board with that hire makes all the difference in the world.
JH, White and UT are getting off on the right foot but the real test will be recruiting moving forward, he gets the right weapons and UT is gonna be just fine.

The population means little if you don't live and breathe football like they do in states like Georgia, like Alabama, like Texas, like Ohio, like Florida, etc. Michigan has roughly the same number of residents as Georgia, but if you watched a Michigan High School game compared to a game in Georgia, it looks like two completely different games. Georgia has 5 times the number of blue chip recruits each year, because football is life in Georgia. It isn't like that here.

It is why location is so important to coaches. It is why it is the same schools at the top of the recruiting rankings each year.
