Texas, I agree. USC, I agree. FSU, I agree. Florida, I agree. Tennessee, Michigan and Nebraska will never win national titles regularly. Nebraska is simple. They have no in state talent and no talent in surrounding states. Michigan may make the CFP once in a blue moon, but they too, have little in state talent and the talent that is there, they have MSU to compete with to try and sign them. Tennessee has comparable in state talent to Michigan and they are in the WRONG conference to want to be a national title contender and it will only get worse when Texas and OU come to the SEC.
It is a pipe dream for these fans who think they are a coach away from being Alabama. Saban has signed like 30 5 star recruits from the state of Alabama alone since he has been head coach there. You could probably add up the 5 star recruits all time for Tennessee, Michigan and Nebraska combined and you wouldn't hit 30.
CFB is all about location. It is why Saban won nothing at MSU, not even a division title. Location is how you bring in the recruits. Tennessee is located in a much better spot than Michigan or Nebraska, but they also are fighting with a boat load of elite schools to not only try and pull elite kids from the south, but keep their own elite recruits to stay in state.
But if it makes you feel better to think you are just a football coach away -- keep believing it. Unfortunately for Tennessee -- they are not a destination school, like a LSU, Bama, Georgia, USC, etc. etc.
